How do you like to personalize your living space?

when's the last time you called a police? and what for?
There was the incident with the fake quarter recently.

...Prior to that, the last time we had a major emergency was when lightening struck a tree, and took out a power line connecting the house to the main wires in the back. That branch not only took out power wires, but it also damaged the electric meter pretty badly, too, and major repairs were needed, along with a major upgrade to our fuse box.
You didn't call the police for that did you?

I know that a furnace going bad in the winter is pretty serious but calling the police is just a bit too much; they have to handle more serious emergencies like robberies, DUIs, break-ins, etc...

Did it ever occur you just to contact the property management directly? Getting the police involved can really piss people off and you might end up on bad terms with the management.

In case you didn't see the thread earlier this month about the furnace breaking down, it was Foxrac who suggested it, and at first, I wanted to explore other options, but in the end, I had no choice. That, and property management isn't a 24-hour service. And the people who did notify them praised me, so I did nothing wrong. They even said if it happens again, I should do it again if my options are limited again, but I am in a better position now than I was previously.

No, I didn't. I learn something new everyday, but what restrictions do they have? And is it free? Actually, know what? Never mind. I'll do the research myself.
Shipping furniture is expensive. When my daughter bought a lot of Ikea furniture they borrowed a big truck and drove to Georgia (from SC) to pick it up.

Try buying used furniture and fixing it up. Much cheaper, and more character and personalization in the pieces you do yourself.

Do your parents have anything they can pass down to you?

Couldn't. The VP was down, as was everything else. Plus, I didn't have the account information for getting the power back up and running; they had that information, so I either rode my bicycle there or walked there.

They might. Problem is, I can't transport it on the Amtrak nor the #151 Sheridan bus.

Trying to forget that one. No point in wondering endlessly. I've already pretty much forgotten when I did that.

...I still need a desk, though, and I'll figure it out. For now, my older TV's and my other stuff will stay on the east side of my room. My electronics I use are in the southwest side of my room.
A desk is something you can definitely buy used.

"Older TV's?" How many do you have? Why? Those take up space and add nothing (zero) to your room decor. They are dust catchers. One TV per room is plenty.

What are the dimensions of your room? How many doors, windows, and closets? Is a bathroom attached? These are important considerations for your room design.

Other thing you should consider is who will you pass as you bring your stuffs in? I know you said that you lived with other adults. I don't care about the jealousy issues. I'm concerned that some of the residents would try to take advantage of you in one way or other seeing that you're "rich" with all those techs and nice furniture you have. The chance is that other residents are not able to afford what you are hoping to afford decorating your room.

Tread carefully is all I can say.

They might. Problem is, I can't transport it on the Amtrak nor the #151 Sheridan bus.
Can your parents bring it to you? Do you have any other relatives or friends who can bring it to you?

That might explain why I'm dealing with a runny nose and sneezing; dust is something I'm allergic to. And I have a 26" flat screen as my primary TV

And one door, window, and closet. No bathroom attached, although that would be nice.

If dust bothers you, you need to get rid of stuff.

They could; problem is they live over 300 miles away. (By Amtrak from CUS to Effingham, it's 201 miles, but a road is not the same thing as train tracks)

Similar to a small kitchen. The kitchen here and my room are about the same size. You know what? I have an idea.

Youre gonna put the microwave on your nightstand and figure up the minutes and set it as an alarm clock by putting popcorn in there, right?

If you need a desk, you can make one, buying the components a piece at a time.

Buy two matching two-drawer file cabinets. Buy or scrounge an old door (maybe your house has one in the basement). Clean up the door and paint it, if necessary. Lay the door across the two file cabinets (one at each end), with a little bit of overhang on each end. Finished! A desk with storage drawers.
