How do you feel about being friends or dating people with vision problems like RP?

I had an old deaf friend who has vision problem (RP or US I forgot). This person was sort of my first deaf friend when we were in elementary school and we didn't really have good friendship. I always thought there was something wrong with this person, besides their vision problem. Sometimes I felt that when that person couldn't see well, they probably didn't feel "better than anyone" so person lied A LOT of stuffs and tried to be tough (not emotionally tough more like physically tough). I witnessed that person abused one of their very young relative several times. It was VERY distrubing for me as I was only 8 or 10 years old. So then, when I was in middle school or early HS I finally fed up hanging out with that person. I couldn't stand watching someone abusing or lying about obvious stuffs. In some way I felt bad about that person, but I just didn't like how that person behave.
My older sister has a long time friend who has similar problem like my old friend. But her friend has changed 180 degrees opposite after that person attended a blind school called Helen Keller School for the Blind and Deaf, it's for those who are blind, deaf-blind, or US/RP going to be blind. They teach them how to depend on themselves like reading braille, hearing dogs, and so on. After that person graduated, they became more confident and much aware.

Mmm never had friends with vision problems besides needing glasses... but do know a handful of people with US, just never crossed their paths to be friends I dont know, I never tried.

Was that girl I met at your sweet 16 party?

I read all of these messages. Interesting answers. I asked about people with US/RP is because I notice that some of them are more sensitive about their vision problem. For an example, a friend of mine was asked by a lot of people if he had vision problem, he lied by saying no, it was just his klutziness. I just figured that some of US/RP people may be ashamed of their vision problem. I guess that they are afraid that people with no vision problem would make fun of them. My friend had the courage to ask a girl out for a date and she turned him down because of his vision problem.

It must be pretty scary. What did your Ophthalmologist say about your experience with the black spot?

I have a few friends who have Usher's Syndrome and other types of visual problems, but never had any issues about dating anyone with those types of visual disorders.

a very good friend of mine who married.. and Her husband has US/RP as well, legally blind, They live on 2nd floor at an apt building. SHe had to get her hosuing authority to get them live on ground floor due of his legally blind he's doing fine up and down but sometime people turn lights off at bottom of stair he can't really see so I suggest her to ask landlord to have them on first floor/ground floor to keep him steady as well.... *fingercross for them* but they have been waiting for few months..

Everytime they come over, My husband has a game room downstair (DnD-- Duegon and Dragon) so We went downstair 1 time.. my stair area has no light but you can have some light to half of stair it is not enough for him we had to make sure he follows us or have him hold my shoulder to go downstair of course I do worry when He walked downstair alone Hehe his wife got worred but is relief that he's down and safe :)
