How data storage medium have changed ....

I honestly don't like the cloud data version. two words: Too slow to upload.

it's not the cloud. it's your ISP. and possibly cloud's upload rate is capped.

it's not the cloud. it's your ISP.

It's not my ISP. Hard drive and high speed USB flash storage and others have way higher transfer speeds for large data files. Upload is like about 500kb/sec and download is up to 2-3 MB/sec. hard drives, USB flash storage, etc can top 25-100+ MB/sec depending on the device. I have a 500 GB USb external hard drive.

right. that's what I'm saying.

it's your ISP. the cloud itself is fine. your ISP's speed rate is crap. if you're doing this from commercial/university side with ultra-high speed line... no problem.

Not worth the cost for home use and cloud costs money every month if you want 50-100 GB of space and I already have 50 GB used up on my hard drive. It's lot cheaper to have my own storage device than paying per month for larger cloud storage and faster ISP.

that's why what I do is I upload only documents for cloud site. it's really silly to upload movies, songs, etc.

Most of the files are pictures, documents and my own videos for me. I don't do songs, lol. Recently, I transfered over 2+ GB worth of pictures and videos from my recent vacation.

I used to go to work with my dad in the 70's and play with the punch card machine.. he worked for Sperry Univac at the time...

I've used all the media pictured plus more:

Punched paper tapes on a loop, large format floppies, ZIPs, cassette tapes, portable external hard drives, and reel-to-reel magnetic tape.

I wonder sometimes what chemical storage would be like. Data writing and reading by electrochemical processes. Imagine storing data in customized DNA. Use a retrovirus to infect someone with secrets and recover them when they get to another country. Engineering organisms to do complex computations where their output is in strands of chemical patterns; essentially pooping answers.

yes indeed there are more, but the author/artist of the picture kept it simple for impact...
i used to think 5 1/4 inch floppies were fantastic, 'futuristic' even...still got some lying around somewhere, and the 3.5 inch...hard case floppies...then it went up to DSDD...

Cloud stuff is a house of straw, it requires too many factors to be right in order to work. Any connection problems or issues with the cloud server and you can't get at your stuff. Local storage (whatever it is) is still best IMHO.
