How Can You Tell If Youre Allergic to Gluten?

you can get certified gluten-free oats but they are more expensive.

best thing is to find a doctor who is familiar with gluten sensitivity vs. gluten allergy vs. celiac and maybe even has some nutritional knowledge or interest.
or consult with both doctor and nutritionist.

doctors dont know nuthn. Theyre just pill pushers trying to sell you a pill

um..... you're thinking of wrong doctor. I'm talking about a specialist such as allergist or gastroenterologist or similar. How can they give you pills if they don't know what you're allergic to if the purpose is to find out what you're allergic to?

Yes, Oats are cereal grain. If you are sensitive to oats, then eliminate grains, including corn. Again, corn is not a vegetable. Corn is a grain.

Oats can increase your glucose high. It can also make you feel hunger a few hours later. Really. I did self-experiment myself, and did look up info. Many people feel the same way. I don't have gluten problem, but it gives me sinus problems, and inflammatory. So, I had to eliminate them, and I saw the major difference. No inflammatory. My nose doesn't clog anymore. I can breathe through my nose. It also reduces my allergies, too. I did not even take allergies medication. And the rest.

You can try different types of meals without any grains. It is not the end of the world.

I recommend avoiding dairy and grains for three weeks to see how you feel. After that, you can re-introduce them to your body again. Wait and see if your body reacts. Write food journal. You have to get to know your body better.

I think its more from the protein casein thats in dairy. Im pretty sure cheese doesnt have lactose

Cheese does have lactose unless you buy the lactose free cheese. I know this only because I first thought I needed lactose free diet, then found I was allergic to dairy.

some cheese alternatives made to replace it due to the lactose, also do have other milk-derived ingredients....I can have small amounts of casein but not a whole glass of milk or a plate of dairy mac and cheese. So if one really needs to avoid all dairy-related products it could be helpful to read the ingredients in substitutes.

grains like quinoa, teff, amaranth, millet and sorghum are also gluten-free

And you think you will get better care here? There are a lot of reason you could be feeling sick, it might not be food . Having a symptom does not mean only one thing could be wrong with you . That is like saying I have a cough so I must have TB! Tell your primary care doctor you want to see a specialist and if your does not help you find one you need a new primary care doctor .

Paleo Diet (diet which means Lifestyle) is not bogus! Does that means you want to follow Government diet which is extremely unhealthy! They know nothings but wants money from food companies so they design stupid "My Plate" (as well as former Food Pyramid!) which put pounds on me till I discovered Paleo Lifestyle and followed it, I lost pounds! So it is not bogus at all! You can get healthy by going Paleo!

The food pyramid has been shown to be sponsored and influenced by corporates. You are right. The government gets its funding from taxes paid by the agribusiness. However I will explain this:

It is bogus because it's a catch-all diet.

It's not the ideal diet for everyone. You can lose weight by only drinking water. Does that means it's healthy? You can lose weight by only eating rice, does that means it's healthy? Not really.

Paleo diet doesn't account for people who evolved a different digestive system to cope with the environment. There's a reason why Swedes consume a lot of diary, while Asians can't. There's a reason why Inuits can eat a lot of blubbers, but a German would get a heart attack on that diet. People with irritable bowel syndrome don't do well with EITHER grains OR meat.

So, yes, it is bogus because it's based on selective readings. Furthermore, almost all the physicians on that website you linked to got their degree from an "alternative medicine" college or university. Problem with alternative meidicine is either there's not enough evidences to support them, or they are based on magical thinking. You know what they call alternative medicine that has been proven to work? Medicine.

Once one get in their head a diet is a very individualistic thing, then one cease to push certain ideas.

I guess you are in denial… later then… ciao!

I see you don't want to debate.

If it works for you, GREAT! You have genes that are compatible with that diet. Not everyone is compatible with it.

Personally, I can't really have a lot of wheat-based products due to the molds in the kernels. I blame my ancestors' lack of HLA diversity for this. So I am border-line paleo regardless. However it is not cheap, and it is not always the easiest to prepare-- so because of that, I incorporate rice and diary to keep the costs down.

But don't push it upon others.

I was semi-jokn about the doctors comment. Some are obviously better than others. I will check the list Boult linked.

As far as oatmeal, I think its disgustingly nasty without any sugar. And I hate the taste of white milk. I used to drink chocholate milk without any noticable problems. When I would eat oatmeal, I would be running to the bathroom soon afterwards.

I have suggested the same thing to him.

Some people keep a food diary and write how feel after eating a certain food. but you really need to see a doctor to do this the right way .
it called an elimination diet , I tried and it take time to do but I was under a doctor care.
Elimination diet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia . I really do not think wise to go on an elimination diet unless you talk to a doctor first. It could be more going with the person body than he realize. I think it really funny how people us this site to get medical advice.

I've always been a big "cereal person" and really like oatmeal with sweetener like agave, barley malt or sorghum sweetener. Don't use any refined sugar in it.

you are right everyone is different. I had a roommate in college that ate a lot of candy and junkfood. He was lean as you could be and muscular. Lucky bastard with good genetics. When I eat like that, it makes me fat.

I dont understand whats so controversial about the caveman diet. People on it, eat more fruits and vegetables than any other diet.
