IS there gluten in oatmeal? Cuz it gives me a stomachache.

See an Naturopath and they can diagnose any type of allergies or intolerances.

I know this from experience.

As gluten's in all grass-grain (wheat, barley, rye, etc) products, symptoms should be worse when you consume them. Oatmeal's an oat. If you eat bread or bread products, and have stomach pains, trouble digesting, anemia, or other stuff (a complete list is available online, but I wouldn't trust the Internet to be a medical professional), it's something to consider. I wouldn't trust the internet to diagnose anything.

Oatmeal shouldn't have gluten in it, as it's an oat.

Random people on the interwebs aren't a good substitute for a qualified medical professional. See your doctor, but as doesn't sound painful I wouldn't freak too much.

Hope this was at all helpful.

Oatmeals usually do not have Gluten, if you have stomach difficulties every time you eat Oatmeal.. it can be anything. Do you have that similar situation with any other food/drink you consume? If so, find the similar ingredient... if you don't want to go through all the trouble. Go see your doctor. If you have allergy, you should have something similar to tolerating sharp pain that lasts more then stomach ache, rashes, swollen parts of the body, getting fever, and many more.

For example:

My wife can not drink dairy or she will have stomach troubles. She is not allergy to it. Just that her stomach can not stand dairy so she has to take lactacid before consuming any dairy.

Do you use milk with meals? That could be the problem - not the oatmeal. Some people can not digest lacoste or they have a true milk allegrery. If that's the case, you'll have nausea, bloating and dirrehea that goes with lacoste intolerance

Or you could have wheezing, hives and vomiting which is not good if you have milk allergy. Since you have not indicated that you have hives or you vomit i think we can rule out milk allergery.

Yeah, I was wondering about the milk too.

Im gonna avoid eating milk products and gluten for a month and see how I feel.

Might want to try one one month, and the other the next. That way you know what it is. If your stomach problems stop, you won't know if it's dairy or gluten that's causing it. If you're off lactose for one month and still have trouble, then drink milk again and avoid gluten the next, and all of a sudden the symptoms vanish, then you know it was gluten.

Doug5, Any type of Oat is not Paleo Friendly and is anti-nutrient. So stop eating any grains. Oats is grain period.

you usually have to exclude products for 3 months to see a difference and that's total exclusion so gluten free for at least 3 months ..this is what I was told by my doctor

Funny thing is I dont like oatmeal or milk anyways. They beat into your head how theyre supposed to be good for you. I like cheese but it messes up my stomach so I cut back on it.

This might be a sign of lactose intolerance....is it any dairy? Cheese, cottage cheese, milk, cream in coffee.....etc?

I think its more from the protein casein thats in dairy. Im pretty sure cheese doesnt have lactose

Oats are usually processed in the same facility as wheat grains. So while oats may not contain gluten, they can be contaminated.

As for people who are giving dietary advices... see a medical professional. Bogus diets such as paleo and naturopathic solutions do not apply. Seriously, self-education is one of the most dangerous thing one can do in this post-modernist new-age world.

Oatmeal are one of the healthiest nutrient. It helps keep your fat and weight in control. If you use milk with it, it can explain the reason but just stop consuming both for a while, at least two weeks is long enough because it takes up to 24 to 72 hours for everything to pass. Try milk alone. no oats. See how your digestive system manages it. If it repeats the problem, then there is your answer but if not, try oats after 72 hours of intaking dairy. If it does or does not. Then it might be bad mix to have milk and oats for you. I have heard several cases that the people can not have some food and fluid mix together. For example, it is bad idea to drink orange juice with pizza or a coke with donuts.

If you can not figure it out, simple, go see your doctor, they will help you figure it out.
