::scoffs::  It was just a freaking power outrage. Alot of people make big deal out of it. I live with my power going out all the times. It's just normal techincal problem.
Yes, it's just another friggin' blackout, people in India and other parts of the world get that on a regular basis, so what's the big deal!? Well, I'd like to tell you all where I was when the blackout occurred.
As usual, I was in my office working with QuarkXPress, making some last minute changes for the HearMore catalog when all of a sudden the lights started flickering and making weird sounds. I looked up thinking "WTF, I need better lights around here", then everything just went dark. It was 4:14 PM I remembered, then I walked out of the room and people were scattering about asking questions.
After an hour of waiting for the power to go back on and getting no real answers to the cause of the blackout, the manager told most employees to go home, including me. On the way home, I realized all traffic lights were off, cars were everywhere. That's just great -- it's rush hour! On the way home I tuned on 1010 Wins, an AM radio station, and learned the following (old news by now):
-There was an overload in the grid system somewhere
-Mayor Bloomberg of NY told everyone to stay calm
-People in NYC are walking home since all subways are closed
-NYC's power is off in its entirity (The City has finally slept!)
-It was humid and hot outside, drink lots of water and open windows
-There were hundreds, if not thousands, of cops on the streets of NYC
-et al
Driving to my destination took a while, and I had to drive carefully through intersections. When I got home, I was bored as hell since I couldn't use my computer, watch TV or use anything that requires electricity for that matter. However, on the good side, I did get to watch the pretty stars in the sky. I though to myself "When was the last time I looked up and saw a shooting star?" It seemed like forever.
I went to bed early that night and woke up late for work in the morning. Hey, blame it on the "Great Blackout", my vibrating clock was dead!
