The point is that this person is very qualified and voters elected her based on her qualifications without reference to her sexual orientation. How often do the really qualified people win without creating some kind of "acceptable image?" Not often enough!

very often, look at the congress.

I see a lot of old, rich, white dudes in Congress. There are some exceptions but those people are exceptions to the general rule.

Texas isn't bad, man. :)

Dallas has communities that are GLBT friendly, so is Austin.

But Dallas is also home to the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, hardly GLBT friendly!

I'm really don't care.

My life in south is great, regardless on GLBT and more conservative.

*gasp* so she isn't really a native Texan!?!?! :)

good article though.

Dallas has a large openly gay/lesbian population. The Oaklawn, Cedar Springs and Riverchon areas are notorious for their gay population as well as parts of Oak Cliff. The Dallas County Sheriff is a Hispanic Lesbian. The area is a little different than it is portrayed on TV.

All metros have large gay community. And hence more acceptance.
Think sometimes it's different attitude toward gay guys than gay women.
But those who do good work deserve votes.
