I'm interesting to know what do you think is appropriate for your child to do for homework and how long should it take them to do it each nights?....

Since I did babysit my niece when she came to my house sometime before. She had to read a book for two hours then write the report what she did read and what they talk abt. Depends on kind of homeworks, she will do that mostly between 1 to 3 hours, but I sometime will help her with the homeworks if she dont understand.

i dont have any kids but

in my opinion it depends on the grade they are in. elementary school, the homework shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes. middle school maybe hour to two hours. and high school is hell it could take u all night.

although it depends on the child also. two kids could have the same amount of work, 1 could finish before the other one just because the one kid is better at it.

It would be depend...I remembered when i was a kid...homework for 1 hour then when I got older...increase to 2-3 hours. Unless there is an exam/test coming...a little extra study.

Most people here make sense. I agree! The key, though, is parental involvement. Doing homework with your kid every night can make the difference between a high school dropout and a Harvard alumnus.

Totally curious, why are you asking? :)

It depending on how much the teacher gives my children to take home and do their homework, Every Tuesday, Jordan take home a homework that should be due by Friday a few pages homework. Markus has homework every night, sometimes 2 to 3 papers to due back the next day. If something is major like a project, That should give a child some time to work on it, which I know that his teacher gives each child a time to work on a project and when it is to due back in time for school. ;) Both of them work on their homework from the hours of 5PM to 7PM, If needed more time to work on homework, then they will go after 7PM.

What about children who are in kindergarten?.....What is the reasonable amount of time per night should young children do their homework ?....

The reason why I'm asking cause it seem that my little one who is only 6 and is in kindergarten, he comes home soo tired from a long day of school and when it time for him to do his homework, he gets frustrated, even RR and I are there to help him, most of the time he knows what to do since its similar to what he usually get each day, and I know he doesn't take naps at school, he does goes to bed at 8 every night sometimes he wouldn't fall alsleep until after 9....

I feel like for a child that small the homework should be a bit reasonable, I mean the time for them to finish such as 25-30 mins per night?....

I am with you on this. I don't believe a child who is in kindergarten or elementary school should be given homework every nights. Three times a week should be good enough. Homework should be limited to no more than 30 minutes.

Isn't that kind of hard to do? I imagine some kids will learn quickly and other kids will have a harder time -- so what might be ten minutes to one student will be an hour to another?

Ok Jordan is in kindergarten too, and he gets homework packet, which lists the dates from Tuesday thru Thursday, Each days he worked on something until then Friday he turns in all 10 pages back to school on Friday which is the due date. He also gets words in his bag to practice sounding out the words and he also need to know how to spell it by Friday, Now that kindergarten has change, they don't play anymore, they learned everything that first graders know. A lot more work than before when Markus was in kindergarten.

i don't have kids

My little one has this package homework which it comes home on Monday, then due on Thursday, also reading books 20 mins per day, words and the monthly thing to do at home project.....

But when he's absent from school , he brings more homework home its like holy smokey!..

Please don't get me wrong here, not that I'm complaining or anything, maybe I'm just worried to much as a mother, but sometimes my little one get soo frustrated, and he can't sit on the chair longer than 30 mins.... :-/

I am not seeing you complaining here. You are not the only one who feels this way because I feel the same way about it too
I am also interested to see what the opinions from others are.

I dont know, my both girls havent homeworks yet, too early for her, next year my older daughter's going to Kindergarden if has some homeworks I would let her to do if she gets tired I think to give her a break, also maybe I would join ith her :D

Hopefully your child will not bring home too much homework because it may take up a lot of your time to sit down to help her with her homework. You have a younger child to take care of and you may need to prepare dinner so that is why I believe homework should be limited to no more than 30 minutes.

Aww Thanks hon , same here... :applause:

I can careless about children brings their homework when starts in 3rd grade but I would be extremely help with him in starts 1st grade through 8th, I would be idiot when he starts freshmen. Elementary/Middle school is big difference from high school.

My homerules requires...
Do first homework likley 1 or 2 papers to finish.. then may go ahead play...
After the dinner.. may go ahead play their friends...
Curfew home.. do their finish up all homework..
2 hours later then their bedtime..

That's all I do that.. I'm very flexible rules w/my kids..
I m not here force them DO HOMEWORK ALL THE TIME UNTIL FINISH.. THEN go ahead have fun.. which it's short fun pleasure.. I do not want that way..
as long my children's choice their responbile and knowledge issues their homework.. as long make sure their grades good... Will be no problem.. If poor grades.. I have to encourge my child and keep up postive ways... sit down and talk w/me.. as condiser little helping as tip... I refused giving it out whole answer.. Make my child can think what the best answer.. then do it written down.. instead relialble me!

Too much and too soon

From what I've seen with my nieces and nephews, it's almost impossible for a six year old to sit still and concentrate on homework for an hour. I would be frustrated too. Life is short. Kids need time to play with friends and burn off energy. Too many grownups have problems with balancing work and family time. There's no need to start this awful cycle in kindergarten.
