Holding "Grudges"...can you forgive or forget?

Oprah said something pretty cool about forgiveness - she said "Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could have been any different."

It does not mean you condone trespasses against you, it just means what happened happened and you've made a choice to accept that you can't change the past and to move on. To hold a grudge means the person who hurt you still has power and influence over you.

It depends how severe it is really, if it's something small, I'd forgive and probably forget over time.
However, if it was something severe, I might forgive but I don't think it'd be something I could easily forget.

Maybe so, but we can still hate them with the intensity of a thousand suns!

I really like this.

That's really profound. It makes me think about someone in my life who I keep trying (and failing) to forgive... and yeah, I keep wondering how everything went wrong and thinking of all the things I should have done different. Hmm. Something to think about.

I usually forgive easily if the offending party shows remorse or apologizes, and it also depends on what they did.

Anyone that intentionally goes out of their way to make me look bad or hurt me are not forgiven easily. There are very few people currently on my "shit list".

As my beloved mentor, pastor, foster parent and dear friend says - "you can still love them - over there!!"

You can forgive, but should you forget? Well, how many times?? In what circumstances? Some things yes, others are a definite no. Some things are really better solved with a lonnnng space between. Perhaps a few hundred miles or so. Then you can still remember that you love them - over there! ha

I sometimes wonder why people would go out of their way and try to make you look like a jackass. Know what Im sayin? What I learned in life, make sure you have the LAST laugh.... :) I mean the very last laugh. I had couple of those and it felt so fookin good. I can tell you that.

Sadly for you, you are not on the moderating team here. Guess the last laugh will go to someone else...:cool2:
