Hello my name is Marissa and I am new. I recently became profoundly deaf. I have had hearing problems since 6th grade but it was never caught onto until I was 19 years old. I was told that I have a nerve deafness which is hereditary in my family and skips apparently it skips a generation. Well I'm the one in my family (generation) who was born with it but wasn't noticed until later. Go figure. I was also told that it gets worse as I get older and by the time I'm 50 I will be deaf. Ive kind of prepared myself most of.my life for it but now that it's a reality it's so very hard to deal with.
