Hobbies... can ya help?

I recently moved back to Louisiana from San Antonio. I have a LOT of time on my hands. My new hobby that's taking up most of my time is sleeping, which is very unhealthy to sleep so much! So, I'm curious; does anyone here have any suggestions for a hobby? OR what is your hobby? How do you spend your spare time?
 
Spend time with your kids. Isn't that the reason you moved back?

That's true. However, now that I reported their mother to Child Protective Services, she is only letting me see them every other weekend, which is what the court order allows. I'm going to see an attorney on the 22nd about modifying this, changing the support obligation, and possibly modifying the custody/domicile status. Also, I have a lot of time on my hands while they are in school. While you do have a good point, I was asking for suggestions and advice on hobbies for me when they aren't with me. Thanks, Baja.
 
David, don't you have anything that really interests you? Hobby is part of your life, not what we suggest you. Do you enjoy riding bikes? Do you enjoy woodworking on your freetime? Do you like to hike around the block with your dog? We don't even know what interests you have, that is part of your hobby.

some of the hobbies i enjoy include reading, writing, surfing the internet, cooking, collecting recipes, downhill skiing, bowling, walking, watching tv documentaries and movies, listening to music, hanging out with friends, talking to friends on the phone and learning more about adaptive computer equipment for people with disabilities.

what are some of the things you enjoy doing most with your time? is there anything in particular that "sparks" your interest?

Well, for one... I LOVE auctions, such as eBay. I do have some things on eBay right now, but its not really moving. I can't put more on until the current items sell. I do like the outdoors, but I can't get the enthusiasm to go out there.

Really, I was just trying to see how everyone else spends their time, like you said in the very beginning of your post.
 
Do something that make you feel good and happy with what you have for the day, but also try to watch your schelude more often, like when you will do your hobby and when will you work. It's just the life, we have to stop doing something and do it again later. Just my 2 cents :)

i also like birding (i do this by listening to bird songs on the internet and memorizing them by ear) and ebay. unfortunately, i can't surf ebay because it's way too addicting to me, so i avoid it altogether. if i don't, i end up spending too much money and struggle for the rest of the month because i can't make ends meet.
 
Howabout taking up a musical instrument? I play guitar, myself (albeit badly). :p
 
that's an excellent suggestion, society's_child. your post reminded me of something else i love to do: sing and take voice lessons. (i've been taking private voice lessons for the past 4 1/2 years and i plan to take up a musical instrument sometime later this year or early next year at our local conservatory.)
 
Go to New Orleans for some fun. Plenty of stuff to do/see in New Orleans.
 
according to your few pf posts, since you moved to other state, get familiar with the area all over again and looking around to see whats the FUN for your kids ( i dont know how old are they) and be prepare for the budget for kids beside the bills, and surfing on the computer to see something else than you thought for starter. evenually, you would find what hobby you like to do something.
 
Volunteer out in your community? God knows, there is always a need for volunteers especially this time of the year - join Meals on the Wheels or similiar program there....bring meals to the elderly or bedridden, visit them or work at Loaves and Fish - there is always a need for volunteering.

Do you like models? It can be wood models, plastic models, or LEGO models.

If you like Star Wars, you can find a few LEGO models from Star Wars that contain over 1,000 pieces, over 3,000 pieces, and even over 5,000 pieces. They're HUGE, but would really be fun for killing time. :)

That's cool. Acoustic or electric? What type of music are you into?

David, how about hitting the gym and transforming your body? It'll make you feel good about yourself. :)

I have both an accoustic and electric guitar but i prefer my electric (fender strat). I've been playing off an on since high school. If i'd really kept at it i believe i would be an awesome player right now.

I'm primarily into rock. I really dig the classic stuff: The Beatles, Hendrix, The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zep, Allman Brothers etc.

Some of my current favorites: The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, The Last Shadow Puppets, The Strokes, The Hives, My Morning Jacket, Arcade Fire.
