A autograph of Adolf Hitler from the end of World War 2 will be auctioned in New Zealand next month.
The signed note will be one of several historically significant documents to be sold as part of a rare book auction at Dunbar Sloane's Auckland salerooms on May 13.
Documents signed by Winston Churchill and assassinated US politician Bobby Kennedy will also go under the hammer.
Hitler's signature is on a typed thank-you card. In translation it reads: "Berlin, April 1943. I express to you my sincere thanks for your greetings on the occasion of my birthday. They have afforded me great happiness."
This is followed by the handwritten signature Adolf Hitler.
The card will be sold along with a book taken from Hitler's library which carries a book plate bearing the inscription "Ex Libris Adolf Hitler".
Both souvenirs belonged to Whangaparaoa resident Neil Duff, a chief petty officer in the Royal Navy during World War 2.
Mr Duff was seconded to the Tripartite Naval Commission in Berlin at the war's end and in May 1945, was given a tour of the Reich Chancellery and took both items as mementoes.
Dunbar Sloane director Dunbar Sloane jnr said Hitler signatures were difficult to value because they were so rare.
They might appeal to collectors of historical or military documents and the auction had been advertised internationally. But the stigma attached to the name would probably discourage many buyers, he said.

I'm almost afraid to see/hear who'll bid on that lot -- I know there are heaps of Neo-Nazi's all over the world...those who are unfortunately sick in the mind and worship the evil Hitler.
