High Schoolers Create Car That Gets 1,693 Miles-Per-Gallon

It did load up for me. Try it again or use this: switched.com/2008/03/24/high-schoolers-create-car-that-gets-1-693-miles-per-gallon

Wow, that's awesome! I wish we could get that much mpg. Though, if we had cars with that kind of mpg....oil companies will go bankrupt.

Hmm... there are no pictures.

I'm guessing that the car is paperweight, runs mostly on electricity, and is designed in a manner that it couldn't be used in a real car.

There are pictures, I found a lot of pictures....keep digging thru. You gotta be smarter than me!

You call that a car?

If you found a lot of pictures, why don't you show us?

I ain't going to because it's right there on the website. :-P I let you guys do the work. You earned to become a moderator so that's hard work.

The article says "car" so don't ask me why they call it a car.
Basically, a car is anything with 4 wheels and runs on an engine of some kind.

If they actually make a "normal" car that everyone could use, then I would be impressed. If it's just a tiny 4-wheeled vehicle that weighs under 100 lbs (without the driver) and is in a shape that would make anyone uncomfortable, then forget it.

Alright, I'll find a picture and post it like a nice guy. ;)

Or a three wheeled tricycle with a motor. Yeah, it looks uncomfortable for long trips.

Looks pretty scary to ride in one of those. Is it any better than a motorcycle in terms of mileage?
Yep. The more aerodynamic it is, the better gas mileage it has.

Notice how there are almost no air resistance around the whole thing? That makes it run through air with almost no resistance and uses less power. That will allow the engine to run lighter than normal and save more gas.

I want TRON bike!

and no more gun, we carry frisbee to shot!
Speak of the devil... I played Tron 2.0: Killer App on my Xbox! Boy!

Anyways, your post also reminds me of an episode I saw on Robot Chicken where this guy pulls out his rod, rezzes in his lightcycle, and takes off... crossing a street leaving a wall behind him for all the other cars to crash into.

Would be nice if I had something like that. ;)

This concept could be easily applied to a motorcycle and go even further. I've seen regular motorcycles that can go twice the mileage than cars and trucks. I read a magazine article talking about a motorcycle prototype with a hybrid engine that would allow it to go 250 mpg.

No air resistance my ass....It has to have some maybe low drag resistance, but not no air resistance.
