Hi there...welcome from me, a newbie deaf

My deafness began when i got great fever one night, suddenly, my hearing got worst and worst, and i became totally deaf in d morning. So, it all happened only in "ONE"night ! Doctor said that, virus in my body destructd my hearing neuro system. I supposed to take some steroid and medicine, but it costed too much for me.
I have buzzing and noises in my mid ear, so even i still can hear a small of voices, i can't understand what it means. Only noises.
Oyeah, I worked as a Computer Technical Support, and i also have my own bussiness on it too. But after my deafness, i couldn't work well. I can't even fix my own speaker then...:aw:..It was very hard to deal with it at the first years, but now, i can accept it as a bless form God. HE won't give something without meanings right ?
I joined acupunture method lately, and it gave me progess.
Now, i'm looking for friends to share life, and how to deal with it better. Because no matter what i do, i'm still not a "NORMAL" person anymore right?
So, this is my introduction and hopes i can join with you guys.

What is the definition of "normal"? Whatever you want it to be. :) A space alien would say he's "normal." :laugh2:

hi tommys,

In college I worked with Deaf kids while in college and program had staff Deaf too. I also took ASL class but was taught by hearing man. Recently I had been re-learning ASL through Deaf friend-
 
wow...great environment for you then, dogmom! It's nice to have an experience deaf friend around us. Wish i could have things like you mom ! People around me don't have sense about handycap yet, so i must struggle it myself. Once a time, they threw me with stone on the head just because i didn't hear them from the back !

Yes, forgive my emotional words, it's just everything's not the same anymore. By the way, do you know how long we can learn ASL untill, let's say, talking to other deafs like us? Will it take more than 6 months, a year maybe ?

do you know sites that teachs ASL trough multimedia which i can learn trough internet ?

Try • ASL • American Sign Language, also. Nice man. Teaches free, and you can download a syllabus to follow, free, too. His wife is Deaf, he is either Deaf or HOH, and may teach at a Deaf school, I think. :hmm:

Sorry so long not see. I have a lot of works to do, specially on weekend. I have a computer bussiness and also computer training institution. Since i'm deaf, my wife helps me taking care of the training & Public Relations. Me, i only do the technical support. Yes i'm deaf, but i don't wannabe jobless.My family relies on me, so...here i am.

So, everything is fine out there ?

so tommys, techie, you? My husband also tech- computer information/programmer/network security. Happens to wear hearing aids. I would say - don't say you "only" do tech support - tech support VERY important, I know cuz I have LD and am NOT technical :D And - you NOT handicapped, that's something other people perceive of you, but I don't think you need to think of yourself that way. My LD is part of me, but "I am not LD" or an "LD person".
 
I just browsed to chat forum, and i found in Frisky Feline's thread "anyone of you...?" you said that BB's your husband ? Sorry if i'm mistaken.

There is other mods: Brian, Calvin, Linuxgold, Jolie77, sablescort and vampyrox and also a Admin: Alex.

You can create a new group for "indonesian deaf corner" in Social Groups. Which is in your User CP: You will see on your left side: Networking then click on Social Groups. Help this helps. :)
