To introduce myself I am an aunt of a born deaf great nephew. He is the only person to have a hearing problem from birth. He has had a cochlear implant which he has adjusted to well and can now speak well also. What a wonderful thing in this day and age! He is currently attending a state supported school during the week and comes home on weekends and is loving it.

Now why I searched for a board such as this is that although my extended family is unaware of I have had a stroke that has done damage to the part of the brain that affects short term memory and also hearing. I still hear but both ears now are also flooded with annoying noise (one side a constant high pitch and the other like loud insect buzzing). As far as I know my ear parts are fine but are damaged from the brain itself.

I have read thru post about pos/neg side of transplanting real organs versa the implants. Do any of you have any links to up to date information on this from medical research?

The reason being is due to what a benefit it might be to not only me but my nephew as well if I could have the noise causers removed and yet give him the benefit of a true hearing organ. I would certainly be willing to do one at a time to see if it was a benefit to either of us knowing I completely loose hearing of one ear. I can't discuss this with my family cause I know they would completely discount any possiblity and think I am even nuts to think of it. But I am willing to take the risk and especially at the possibility of helping get this being tried even at the odds of failure.

Am I crazy? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I have to agree with Bott. Your nephew have to accept his deafnesss even if he is wearing CI (Cochlear Implant). There is no cure to get "fix" if that is what you are implying. d/Deaf or Hard of Hearing is here to stay. All we ask for you is to leave him alone as he is. Don't help him to hear and listen. It does not work that way. For now, I hope you have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around here.
