Hi everyone, my name is Emely. I am a 19 year old student at NYU in my first semester of ASL. So far, so good! I am not Deaf nor hard of hearing but have taken a great interest in ASL and Deaf culture. I hope to soon become fluent in it and share great experiences. :aw:

 you are right in my neighborhood! I have plenty of friends who have graduated from NYU. I got a job offer at NYU but I turned it down lol

plenty of deaf events around here so attend it!

Jiro, that is awesome! I'm a 2nd year student here, originally from Long Island but the city is great --

As for events, please let me know of some! I attended a Deaf poetry jam at Bowery a few nights ago and it was quite an experience, I loved it! I have to go to two required events this semester but I also would like to attend them for fun as well!

Jiro, why didnt you turn it down at NYU????

By the way, newbie, welcome to AD!

ah yes it was. I was there a couple months ago. If you have facebook - subscribe to NYC DPHH (NYC Deaf Professional Happy Hour) and in meetup.com - there's some ASL groups. I just attended Deaf Canteena (it's like a talent show) yesterday in Brooklyn. I will let you know (if I remember :giggle:) for next Deaf Canteena session

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I hope you have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around here.

thank you guys! :ty: looking forward to interacting with you all!

P.S. I read somewhere that students come here just for help? I'll be here for much more than that! :)

New Comer

Hello,

My name is Dustine. I am medically deaf but have lived my life as a hearing person. I was raised oral and read lips. For whatever reason my speech ability is very good but I am reminded everyday that I am not hearing. I am hesitant in joining a forum because I once tried to join a deaf community near me but was rejected for my hearing ways. I read the coment about love, indeference, and hate. I am hoping to join this community without experiencing the indeference or hate I have in the past.

more like - students came here to make us do their homeworks :giggle:

I'm glad you're here for more than that. I'm pretty much in your neighborhood so I will let you know when and where the deaf event will be held

You should really make your own introduction thread. But the bolded part of your statement might cause problems for you.

I am sorry, I have never done a forum so I am not familiar with where to start. As for my statement it is not ment to offend it is my struggle and has been all my life.

I doubt if anyone was offended. I am just telling you how life works.

It is how you learn.

Now you know.

Go make your introduction thread.
