Hi Everyone!
My name is Katie and I live in Southeast Georgia! I'm hearing but a friend of mine recently lost her hearing and has been frustrated by the way hearing people treat her (due to what I hope is mostly a lack of understanding). For example, until she explained it to me, I didn't realize how challenging lip reading can be. I want to be a good support to her, but also not annoy/make the same mistakes when interacting with my deaf coworker. I'm wondering if anyone will weigh in on this for me:

What do you wish hearing people understood/would do better?

I have severe hearing loss but can talk just fine so people think I am faking. Some people think if you have a hearing loss you can't talk.

I like what you wrote about HL looking different, DeafNerdMommy -my hub is same as you. He uses Resounds aids. I have technically mild hoh and potentailly APD, with noticeable speech differences. My hearing and my processing of information varies widely. I do not wear aids at the moment.
