My name is Meghan, and I am new! :wave: I joined AD to learn more about the Deaf culture. My on-again, off-again boyfriend in deaf (i am hearing) and I hope to be able to help us both out by learning things for myself and for him as well. Any help would be great! (i hope i put this in the intro thread...lol) TTYL!

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. Well, having a relationship with your deaf boyfriend is not the same like a hearing person. No matter if a person is deaf or hearing, being in the relationship is not that easy as you are going to have a hard time trying to get along with him. You just have to accept him as being a Deaf person who happen to be that he can not hear you or you expect him to respond to your needs when he can not hear you. Just talk to him face to face so that he can see you whether you are talking in voice or signing to him in conversation. Lipreading is not that easy either and every hearing person expect us to read lips perfectly or one hundred per cent which is a hogwash. There are very very few Deaf people who can read lip one hundred percent like Sue Thomas, the lipreading interpreter for the FBI, but most of us have trouble understanding in lipreading so it is hard for the deaf who can not make out head and tail what you are saying.
