HI there! (second chance at introduction 1st time computer glitch)

I moved from Memphis, TN to Austin, TX 1. to escape my screwed up family 2. to take advantage for the free school TX offers for Deaf and HOH

Umm.. let's see I believe my hearing troubles started when i was a kid @ 5. Parents ignored it saying i wasn't paying attention. Then at 13 hit by a car. (lotsa ringing in ears/swan song) Parents says same thing-i'm ignoring them?:|- had trouble hearing all through college..friends would complain i would not hear them yelling hello when walking by them to class. Had ears checked once.. Finally get a chance go to doctor during college Xmas break ( i requested it as a Christmas present) Lovely HMO lady said it's a cookie bite and that's all no follow up, nothing!

Hearing was awful in Graduate School but thought that's just how i hear. 2005 finally got hearing aids.. am at 67% loss left ear and 57% loss right. Now i have to get another degree cause being a elementary school counselor is TOO MUCH ear hassle. I think the biggest mistake i made before hearing aids was skydiving! I didn't know it would hurt my ears so badly.

Doctors don't know what's the cause i think it congenital... but i wonder how long before i hear nothing cause it's getting worse every year..
so i'm just hanging on until i can get that degree in! :D

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. Now you are late deafen, even if you were having problem with hearing at five years old. Well, you just have to get use to it with the ringing and swan song thingy. It is not pleasant but that is what we all have the ringing in our heads. I hope you have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around.
