So I'm new to the site. I'm studying ASL at Columbia in Chicago, and I'm looking forward to meeting some new people! I'm currently taking a Deaf Culture class, and I need to interview a deaf or hard of hearing person for an assignment. So, if you come across this post, and you have time within the next few hours to answer a few questions, I'd be really grateful. Here we go...

1. How did you become deaf or hard of hearing?
2. How did your parents react upon learning that you were deaf?
3. Are you any other minority?
4. Do your parents or siblings know ASL?
5. What communication method did you use at first?
6. What is your educational background (school and college)?
7. Where do you work? If you don't work, why not?
8. What is your current communication method of choice?
9. What is your social life like?
10. What are your views on ASL?
11. What is your view of Deaf Culture?
12. What is your view on cochlear implants?
13. Do you have any deaf role models?
14. Did you experience any frustrations in your life as a result of being deaf?
15. If you were president, what would you change in the hearing world?

I know it's a lot, but like I said, if you have the time...

Thanks!

I believe this is the same questions from another student, her name is Alix, I might think you know her. She posted the same questions in your post earlier this week.

Never mind. I found it. I'm certain we go to the same school, but I don't think I know her. Really cool that you could help her out.

1. How did you become deaf or hard of hearing? I was born too early, the nerves in my ears did not fully develop.
2. How did your parents react upon learning that you were deaf? My dad refused to believe I had a problem, and my mother put me in speech therapy and took me to get hearing aids.

5. What communication method did you use at first? Reading lips.

6. What is your educational background (school and college)? I graduated highschool by homeschool and I am currently studying Business in college.

8. What is your current communication method of choice? I communicate by voice.

9. What is your social life like? I am very social. I have my friends and my family.

10. What are your views on ASL? Though I am mostly deaf, I wear hearing aids, I do not know muc ASL, I would love to learn it so I can communicate with other people who know ASL.
11. What is your view of Deaf Culture? It's an awsome group, sometimes can be a little scary, in the social gatherings, some people tend to leave the more hearing people out.

12. What is your view on cochlear implants? I do not have a view on them.

13. Do you have any deaf role models? Deanne Bray (My name is DeAnne too) She plays Sue Thomas FB Eye on television and she is deaf.
