I am new to the site. I have always been interested in learning asl. My ex-girlfriend had some hearing loss and I started to learn a little sign back then (2010). Now I'm taking classes to learn asl and hope to become fluent and interpret. Hoping to meet some new friends and maybe skype? Just looking to create friendships and expand my asl ability.

Hey. My name is Emma. About 3 to 4 times a year, my hearing goes away for about 3 months

I can't really hear all that good but sometimes my hearing goes away completely for a while

What?!!!! I have never heard of that unless you were having problem with driving up the mountains or high hills that can cause your eardrums pop and you lose your hearing temporarily. I went through a couple of times going over the high hills over the border between Minnesota and Wisconsin with my hearing aid on. I did not know and no one told me about the trick to stop having a pop in your ears until later when I became a teenager. :(

The trick is to chew your gum to avoid having pop in your ears when going through the mountains or high hills by car. As for Hard Of Hearing (HOH) and d/Deafies, do not use your ear molds in your ear. You have to take it or them off to release the pop along with chewing the gum. If you don't have gums to chew. Another trick is to swallow your throat every few seconds until you arrive on the destination from the hills and mountains. I just hope that help you to deal with this. :)

Or were you in front or in the loud bands? That might be the reason you were having problem hearing after probably temporarily. **sigh**

I get fluid in my right ear caused by infection. I am deaf HOH but lose all hearing in my right ear when this happens antibiotics usually help. It's called Otitis Media

Hello Emma! I am in ASL as well, looking to practice! Do you have snap chat or glide?

Ear infections since I was a small child. Totally deaf as a pre teen. And multiple surgeries (both ears). Have you had any surgeries? And do you keep water out of your ear(s)? Ear infections are painful and sometimes extremely hard to get rid of.

Never had surgery. Yes I keep the water out. I've had this happening only for the last 4 years off and on. It's gotten worse this past time that they are looking more into it now. I'm getting an MRI today.

That's good about the MRI...hope you have an ear specialist, an ENT didn't cut it with my case...years and years of ear drops...even 1 ENT asked me "why do you keep having ear infections"?...(as if I knew the reason)......had the 10th surgery last year...they also found a Bacterial Infection...and have to have the mastroid cavity cleaned and vacuumed out every 2-3 months or so. Ear wax does not form right and stays impacted. Over the counter ear wax removal?...Doctor said no way, even flushing my ears.

As for the water in the ears?...I was using ear plugs...now they recommended using cotton balls swabbed with Vaseline, inserted into the ear(s) before showering and washing the hair....It works like a charm!...I do not swim and use the pool because of this.

Good luck.
