Hi everyone!

My name is Frances, I am a married wahm to 2 girls and live in Alabama. I just found out this past Sept that I have Stapedial Otosclerosis which apparently I have had all my life. However I did not have any hearing problems until June 04 when I got pg with my 2nd baby. Since then my hearing had been getting worse and worse and I could not hear normal range of conversations and was having trouble hearing on the phone etc.

The dr says I have servere hearing loss in both ears with my left ear being the worst. Normal hearing range is 20db and I am like in the 80's on both ears way below avg per the chart he showed me.

I am now in a situation trying to figure out what to do because surgery is an option however my insurance will not pay for it nor the hearing aids. Sigh. .I had an appt with the HA specialist a few weeks ago and was amazed on how much I have been missing out on. I have an appt with the surgeon next week but pretty much have already decided to not do it.

Just wanted to say hi and to tell my story. I am glad to have found others with similar problems and hope to make some great friends here.

Welcome, Frances. I'm also deaf after hearing most my life. This site has been an education for me. I hope you'll like it, too.

Welcome Francis! I have learned so much by being a member
here. Have you seen the E,N,T in Birmingham, AL?

Thanks for the welcomes!

I actually saw an ENT here in Huntsville and he was great, the surgeon he referred me to also here is supposed to be on the best (he did the ent sons surgery).

It's so hard going for 28 yrs and then all the sudden having a hearing disorder. It's so depressing not being able to hear my kids unless they yell at me or my husband trying to talk to me.

My friends used to laugh prior to finding out that I did have a hearing problem but I still don't think they really understand.
