I guess Don will have to clarify that. He said semed like it would be worth it for his kids because they don't have any idea their dad is deaf. Looks like we simply read it two different ways.
Yes I agree - I just found it interesting that you had a different reading that didn't occur to me. If he personally didn't want a CI but was only doing it to make his children feel less ashamed of him, then I'd be the first one to talk him out of it. I suppose also he probably was thinking about the practicality of communication with the kids as well - without a CI they'd all have to learn sign language, which might be harder to do in older kids than starting from baby/toddler level. I think that forming a parental attachment to them again after all those years apart is going to take time.
Anyway, I won't try and read his mind any further! I think it shows that people reading the same words can come away with a different impression or intepretation.
