I have to say thanks to everybody. You are simply nice!
I think the most of Italians are used to hear mafia and Italy together in a sentence. After all mafia is really an italian invention. Personally I like the joke, after all. Nevertheless, we are very famous for many other things, food and history above all. But we've got a huge number of unbelievable poets, philosophers, scientists, inventors...
Well, yes my son is using HAs for 4 weeks now and we can see some clear signs of improvement: he turns when called at least 1 of 3, almost 100% of cases in "easy" hearing conditions, he reacts to many different sounds (though most of them are low frequency)... He is following a "hearing education" and speech therapy three times per week and we try to do our best at home.
What's most important for me, he is the happy boy he always used to be. I'll do everything I can to allow him to be always happy.
I am collecting information on everything, the HA and CI technologies, the speech therapy methods, the way we can get help from the government and institutions and of course the sign language. I know there is a vivid discussion on the right approach to use with a deaf/hoh child, my opinion at the moment is that sign language (yes LIS, lingua italiana dei segni) can really help us a lot to strenghten our communication and therefore our relationship, much faster than the acquisition of the oral language, that will be longer and difficult for him, also if properly aided.
Basically, since we are supposed to make many important choices for him, until he will be able to make his own decisions, we simply would like to be well aware of all the pros and cons of every step.
