Hi all! My name is Donna and I am hearing. I joined this forum as a last resort, as I am about to pull my hair out! LOL. I can sign, but I cannot read sign well, as I have not been immersed in the deaf community, and I think the deaf in this town must hide, because I cannot find any information about the deaf community here at all. I really want to start a deaf ministry, but first, I want to get fluent in ASL/PSE/SEE . Does anyone have any suggestions? I can't find anything online anywhere!

to AD.. I am from Arkansas. What part are you from? I wonder? I am near Morrilton. :) Meanwhile.. I hope you will enjoy the stay with us and happy posting away! :)

Hi! I am in Heber Springs, about 60 miles north of Little Rock. Morilton sounds familiar. :)

Heber Springs is not that far from here, really! wow! unbelivable! ha. there are few deaf people residing near Heber Springs. Anyway the first thing for you to do is take sign language class and get to know more signs and read other people's signs. the more practices you get to interact with other deaf people the more yu will get experienced in that area.
They have sign language class at UCA in Conway but am not sure of dates but I can find out if you want me to? Also sign language class are held at Ark. School for the Deaf, too.

Oh, how cool! Nice to meet you, and glad you ain't too far away! :) Yes, I want to take classes, as well as interact with the deaf here in town. I want to get over my fear of using my signing, because I am always afraid I'm gonna look stupid or do something wrong. I actually called Harding University today to see about the classes they offer. Conway is a little bit too far to go, but Searcy could be at least do-able. Can't wait to get to know you!

:welcome: to Alldeaf! Have fun posting and browsing! :)

My name is Ginger.. its nice to meet you, too! :)

I wouldnt mind getting together with you and help you learn signs and you read my signs and all that. I am hoh so it probably will help you as well.

You did? I don't know if Harding University offer any sign language class? I hope they do. :)

I go to church in Morrilton and they don't have interpreter there. There are 2 deaf people which is me and the little girl she is 8 years old. I can lipread but sometimes the preacher talked too fast.. lol.. so i asked my sis help! she signed to me what is going on so its cool with me.. but it would be wonderful to have a deaf ministry if more deafies come to the church. sigh! let me know if you got a deaf ministry set up then i would love to go to your church, ok. :)

Have a great day then! :D

It would be awesome to get together with someone who uses sign all the time. :) I can't wait til we get deaf ministry started. Lord willing, it won't be too long. What church do you go to there? We go to First Assembly of God. (When I say we, I am meaning me and my family. I have been married for 16 years to my hubby Chris, and we have 5 children. 3 girls, 2 boys, ages 15, 13, 9, 5, and 7 months. :) ) Talk to you soon, Ginger!

PS... and thanks to everyone else who has welcomed me here! :D

I agree it would be awesome! :) I go to First Baptist Church. I go there with my sister, her husband and his son. I am hoping that my bf will go with me there too as he mentioned he would love to go there with me. I have a 7 yrs old son but he doesnt want to go to church. He prefer to stay home and watch TV instead. sigh. I am hoping he will change his mind one day and go with me. :) sigh!
