Hearing people suck (well not really)

Huh? What ya mean?
okay, you've heard of hearing impaired right? which means for deafness, so as for hearing ppl, we call them deaf impaired, for their hearingness lol

Been there, done that.... I used to be a Casino Table Games Dealer for some years. Had many rude customers, I just put up with it....

One memorial time I had 2 Young Deaf Overseas girls sitting at my table who were signing in ASL right under my nose not realising I was Deaf and fluent in ASL myself. They were being rude to the Waiter and signed to him grossly which he couldn't understand and end up walking away from them.

10 mins later I got tapped off my table and signed in ASL "Have a good evening - we would appreciate it if you could communicate clearly rather than being rude". You shoulda seen the looks on their faces and they hurrily left the Casino...

As a Dealer I wasn't allowed to use sign on the table for security reasons under our countries laws, therefore could not sign anything until I got tapped off.

I get that ALL THE FUCKING TIME! Everytime I go into restuants like Wendy's or KFC, or whatever, I always give out my order by talking and almost every person at the cash machine ALWAYS go "what? come again? what's that?" and most of the time it is always a forgiener, hispanic or chinese or whatever, and as if they act like they understand me, they ALWAYS gave me the wrong types of food that I didn't even put on my order! i was so fucking pissed that I wanna punch that forgien in the face! he should've been honest that he didn't understand me...damn.

i can understand that's very frustrating and annoying. Perhaps
we can create and enact a new law requiring that
all restaurants including fast foods should have
menu pictures and something front of these cashiers
so that way we deaf people can just point my finger to it.
Yeah, I noticed that they're hiring many foreginers much more
than before. Sigh...

Steel... I didn't know that!!! LOL That's funny!

Ya know what I hate???? At the fast food restaurants, I always say "no mustard" for my cheeseburger...they always think I said No pickle... Im like ya know the yellow thing you put on the burger??? That is MMMMMMMMuuuuuuSSSSSSSSSSSStttAARRDDDDD. hehehe
I don't get those people..... They dont take the time to listen.... I just want to :slap: them!
:|

Most restaurants have menu pictures. At least there are in my town...

LOL real funny ways of coping with your anger when these things happen. Burrito, WTG..

Just last night when my hubby and I went to see the movie Pirates of the C. Curse of the Black Pearl - I got my printed pages of subtitles in English with a little red light to read them in the dark setting. I know my hubby would hear some comments made about us, but he wouldn't mention it to me - he just hates confrontations and thinks I'm lucky to be deaf, because I can disconnect from the verbage easily.

After the movie was over, we stood up - I noticed a woman in the back glaring at us with that ugly expression. I just gave her a confused smile, but ignored her promptly. But it's more of young women glaring at me, I guess... but not the men! If I sign, that is. Wonder what that is about... granted, I have a nice cleavage but.... It's always ugly to see the glares..... curious stares, I don't mind, but glares...... I would prefer to make friends rather than make war. Just what in holy hell is it with the glares? Just come up to me if something bothers you, and hopefully we can get that resolved and eventually have beer together.

But the best thing is that when I go to the stores and the vid rental shop, I see the same people working behind the counter (which is all the time) - they have gotten used to me by now. The boss of the vid rental went all the way to find a few old, old videoes for me to rent... Children of a Lesser God and other two I don't remember, after I asked him about deaf movies. That was so nice!

I live in a town where many people aren't aware of the deaf culture and all that. A typical conversation would go..

Me: *Gesturing* Pen and paper please.
Worker: What?
Me: *Gesturing again* Pen and paper.
Worker: Huh?
Me: Making a square and gesturing a pen.
Worker: What was that?
Me: :madfawk: Bend over to the cashier register and grabbing a pen and making another gesture for a damn paper.
Worker: Ohh!! Why didn't you say so?

That was the most stupidest worker I met. Usually people would catch on after the first or second attempt. As being treated badly, people didn't treat me bad. They were more intimated by me. When I say I'm deaf, they would say, Oh, I'm so sorry! :wtf:

Yes we do(suck that is)

I am hearing and I have to agree with you Pinkster. Many hearing people have no patience (and it is not just with deaf but with all people). I have experienced many of the same things as you have and I can easily relate to your stories and I am a hearing person. Simply ask a person to repeat themselves and they *huff* and stomp away. Like I should be able to read their minds. I have worked in retail, as a waiter and in many other service jobs. It is the complete lack of patience of hearing people. They want "IT" and they want "IT" NOW!

I am often appalled at the actions of hearing people and how we treat each other and the rudeness and lack of understanding. Why is it that in a time when "patience" and "tolerance" are preached on every TV show and in every school that we have none or that there is less and less of it?

I could give a collective apology for my fellow hearing but I wouldn't want to, they do suck, and I have always had more of a friendship and understanding with the deaf community (my bro is deaf) so I look to them more than the hearing "community"(I put it in quotes because it is not really a community like the deaf).

I would say that we should all have more patience with each other. After all, how would those rude customers feel if someone treated their daughter or son the way treated you? Let's ask them shall we. But if that doesn't happen a good slap to the head always works for me.

Just wanted to get my two cents in.

:) Very nice. I realized though, after i graduated from hs, that the world is hearing. Based on your saying "impatient" and etc, the world kind of sucks :) But hey, Im fond of saying - you deal with the cards you're given - even if its a bad hand.

As to everyone else's responses - Its nice to see that (i know this has been said) Im not the only one. Life can be kind of a struggle (kind of!?!?) for anything, especially a place where we belong totally. I dont belong in the Deaf community 100%, prolly never will (i just cant seem to change my way of thinking), nor will I ever be considered 100% hearing (i just cant kick that deafness away.) :D Im happy with that (today anyhow) so yeah, hearing people suck, but so do deaf people :)

Stupid Stupid

I was looking for the job and still today. I was apply the vary good job position that I could like work for them. They end up and say, "oohhhh.. can you speak, can you hear and okay we have position open..." I told them okay, when can we start interview. Sudden, "no position." Its made me mad and then I apply other job and got a greeting card, "Thank you for your interesting. We current don't have position at this time." Something like that and why in few week that post up and say, "NOW HIRING!" with white texts and red post! I hate when they ask me stupid question, "Can you write", "Can you drive", and etc the stupid and stupid!

It's the same for me everywhere I go. Here are some tips: :P

When asked by any hearing person, I usually ignore them by simply saying 'sorry' or :dunno: because by saying 'i'm deaf' just making matters worse (i have experience with some hearing people's attuide) but thats usually depends on where you are, what you are in.
If in public place like shopping, i do ignore them and still, it's not your fault.

Most of time it will be fine but if hearing person taking me seriously like looking at me or will not give up talking then i would let him know that i'm deaf.

If you can understand what hearing person is saying when he/she approached you then its very likely he/she will understand what you are saying.

At restaurants like KFC, I usually order by numbers but if i want to specific the meal which isn't on the board, i usually type out/prepares text on my mobile and show the staff my mobile and also useful for meal which has difficult names. I found it a lot easier to deal with and much quicker and easier order than having to wait for pens/papers.

Hope this helps. :)

no they are not foreginer, they are just not white. Do you have a problem with that?

Pinkster..... did you grow up in the deaf community or you was involved with hearing family only? I grew up in hearing community where there weren't many deaf folks. I'm the only deaf in my family. I didn't have many deaf friends. I don't even have deaf friends here at college cuz I'm THE ONLY deaf student! When I'm in a deaf group, I am happy cuz I can communicate MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER!!!!!!!!!

I'm having such hard time finding an internship in racing for next semester. I've applied to most of the popular series like NASCAR, IRL, ASA, INDY MOTOR SPEEDWAY, etc.... NOOOOOOTTTTTHING! I call them and say I'm still interested, is there any way we can meet in person? They go , I'm sorry we are not available for that... I think it's the relay calls that scares them away! Whatcha think?

um, it isn't about racism, it's about how they UNDERSTAND english, and most forgeiners (or you say they aren not ) have a hard time understanding english from different ppl with different tunes of their voice or even accents of their voice like they are from another country or whatever and I'm saying I have a hard time with forgeiners because they weren't used to hearing my voice that is deep and flat and not many ppl would have that, though.

in that case, how do deaf people differ from foreigners? She was implying that she is upset that more and more people with color are working. she did not mention if she had trouble undersatnding them or vice versa. By the way, you DO NOT call those people foreigners, they are americans just as you are. They are just Hispanic Americans and Chinese Americans, just like you are White Americans.

we wouldn't call 'em "americans" if they weren't even born here or have a citizenship to this nation, and in order to become an Amercian citizen, they MUST understand english, know the history of America, know the admentents, laws, and the order of the Congress, etc...so they even had to take an exam to earn their citizenship, and if not, they are still not Americans, and are still considered as forgeiners. Hope you've took ESC, US History, and World History already...

I'm not trying to make this difficult here, but they are not REAL americans without the proof of citizenship and their rights of living in America, or they are still considered forgieners, or even worse, "aliens", who crossed to another country from the other without permission.

I have no problem with skin color, but I do have a problem with them understanding English and I don't have much patience to waste my time trying to tell them what the fuck I'm trying to say

You just made a fool out of yourself by showing your ignorance in the Nationalization procedures, with a shame you call yourself an American without fully grasp the laws. Well, I don’t blame you, most Americans can not memorize the amendments nor can they answer all of the nationalization questions correctly.
Now, after 9/11, most employers are required by law to only hire Americans to work, while some places like McDonalds and Taco Bell may require its workers to hold a green card, proven that they have lived in American for over 8 years. That means many of those people are indeed Americans but they just are just people with color whose naive language is not English.
Now, you just said that aliens are worse than foreigners, I have no clue where you get that form, but I do sincere suggest you go back and check your fact before come here and exposure your imprudent ignorance.

Another thing... I totally hate.... My family always makes me so mad. I have to say... I have like 30 relatives in a house.. Im from a BIG family. When I sit down with my mom and aunts around the table.. I can follow the conversation but sometime 2 people talk at the same time..I'm like Mom, what did she said? Mom would be like "Tell ya later" I'm like NNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! OR She would be tellin me HALF of the story...or like I ask my cousin Sarah what they were talkin about...she'd be like don't worry about it... it's nothing important. So I just leave the room sick of my family of being insensitive. I always felt left out of everybody's conversations. OR Don't you hate it when you are talkin to your hearing relatives or friends about anything, their eyes are lookin at something else.. not directly to your eyes... I don't know about you guys, but It's HARD for me to talk when I know their eyes are elsewhere and it makes me feel they are not listening!!! I get that ALL the time. GGRRRRRR :booty: Kiss my butt!

It Happen to me many many time with my family I give it up not ask them anymore cuz they been do the same thing to me they always telling me that i am NOSY i am not ggeezz that why i don;t ask then amymore and i been not talk to my other family cuz of that. One thing i hate when they make me feel i am a little girl i been not see them for a while oh well

hey Katstewart sorry i copy ur words i am telling u that it happen to me many times too

What does it matter if i grew up in the deaf community or hearing community? My family is deaf and I grew up going to the deaf club, bowling league, tournaments, etc etc. But academically I was hearing. After school play time was with hearing kids, I was the only person in school with a hearing loss till i as in 8th grade. Its complicated, I just havent always been deaf.
