Hearing Man Sue ASL Dictionary

Thank you, Kalista. Now, I wonder if we lost Roger?

I did not talk anything about you, I was talking about that man, and you insulted me, trying to tell me what to do, such as trying to make me shut up. I feel that you are the one who is ill-advised act. Ok? :afro:

You're the pot calling the kettle black.

Umm... I'm not very fluent in ASL... I only sign most PSE...

If anyone gets a chance to transcribe or whatever let me know...

Some of the signs are new to me.

I'm sorry but this guy's ASL is rich with classifiers for which there's no English equivalent. If you get the general gist of what he said, then that's what ya go with. Sorry, I'm not much help.

Thanks tousi... still... I don't even know any of the asl classifiers... I'm not that fluent... yet... Maybe I'll get the opportunity to find some info on asl classifiers so I can learn them.

I am not ASL users either and I did not understand some of his signs at first but I figured out at the end.

Basically Roger is telling a story about hearing dad who learned ASL for his deaf son. He used the book to learn sign languages. During baseball game where his son played on the team. His son was a lousy player and dad went to tell his son that he's very disappointed with him and as the result, the father broke his own jaw. This is because of the sign "disappoint" is designed to go to person's jaw and generally hearing people are fragile (Roger said that, not me), unlike deaf people, so as the result he broke his jaw. Then Roger went on to tell stories of other people who made attempts to sue ASL because of injuries involved with certain signs. Deaf lawyer came to defend the case by bring up "HASL" which is for hearing people where they can cover certain parts of their face with other hand so that they won't get hurt by ASL.

That's basically the main point of what he said.

Hopefully I am right? Anyone want to correct those?

If no one has brought up a transcript for you in a couple of days, I will be happy to try make one for you. Hopefully someone will because their English might be better than mine.

I believe in equal access so.

YAY! Thanks SWD...

That makes more sense because the jaw classifier was the death of me...

Thanks bunches!

I'm still unable to figure out the sign in which he uses the curved 5 hands at the head and pulls down....

Tell us at what time did it occur? You mean at around 1:42?

I am not sure either. I think he became low function from the sign "stupid" which hit his forehead. And they cannot provide if he is already intelligently challenged or not.

Seems like he played on words and puns.

OH! I can't believe I forgot that sign! *doh*

Thanks SWD!

Have you considered taking ASL classes? It could be an interesting experience for you and you can to enjoy all sort of ASL-related vlogs and videos that are out there on the internet.

I know in college I will be taking Sign Language I and II for mini classes for my Social Work degree...

I would love to go become a CDI... just right now I can only focus on one thing at a time ya know...

I would like to take one too. But not everyone have time or money to do so.

They don't have ASL classes at my level too. There used to be some but ASL is not popular at my college so they got rid of some ASL courses. It went from ASL I-IV to ASL I and II.

Not everyone is lucky.

My social work degree never asked for foreign language and also ASL is not counted as foreign language.

I sort of wish that they did because I would love to learn new foreign language or ASL.

I don't know if Master of Social Work will requires me to take some foreign language classes.

Thank you! I needed this explanation. I pick up new signs best by watching
first, reading a transcript and watching again to look for individual signs. (I know we are NOT supposed to do it that way but thats how I learn) You
won't believe how many times I watched Deaf Ninja and each time I become
aware of a new sign. Sigh, sometimes my brain feels as if IT is in slow motion.
I would like a transcript too.

oh yeah... hhahahaha NOW I get it! (see me slapping my leg repeatedly and laughing.

I like to have a transcript for non-ASL users even never seen before on new signs, but, I understand most ASL,
but he may be individual signs or someone taught this sign for him.

I will show what he is said on 0:42. I never saw this sign before.
