Health Warning for Gallaudet Students

Hello, I'm a Gallaudet student and I know of 2 people who have Hepatitis B. They refuse to tell anyone or to admit it but I thought everyone has the right to know especially at Gallaudet because Hepatitis B can be spread by touching the same things that the person has touched and it can be spread through any sexual activities. I wanted to let you know so that you can be careful around them.
 
You can be sued for pointing out to anyone with their medical condition!!! Your asking for more trouble than its worth.

Don't forget the HIPPA regulations as set forth recently by federal law.

I think you are being mean by posting these two people's names in here.

Actually, I think the privacy provisions of HIPPA apply to institutions, not individuals. In this case, a valid legal complaint would have more on the grounds of possible libel.

In US law, according to the doctrine of substantial truth, if a statement is proven to be true, then it is no longer consider libel.

Still, I think it's mean to post the names of people online.
 
You may have had good intentions to protect the health of anothers which is good...

but that can get lost in the uproar. I am sure you did not realize the real world conquensces so just keep that in mind. There is a right and a wrong way to go about it.
 
Does not matter who, there have been some cases where a person have sued another person for causing rumor and gossips. I have read articles back then and some of them were with merit and won the lawsuits.

This thread could have been EASILY become hard evidence in the court of law. Too obviously! If this person is smart enough not to mention name then this person will be ok.

PLUS AD can be in legal liable for being "Accessory" to this crime.

What happen if they touch u like hand shake or share drink without know about herp. So Warn is good idea.

I knew deaf always rumor so quick.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm saying the charges that would apply in this situation aren't related to HIPPA and instead this factors more into libel, which is definitely a bad thing. See, we're on the same side. ;)

Like you, I think the poster should not post the individual names. Besides its potential to lead to lawsuits, it's just flat out mean and inconsiderate.
 
How is hepatitis B spread?

The hepatitis B virus is spread from one person to another through body fluids, including blood, semen, and vaginal fluids (including menstrual blood). Contact with a body fluid can occur from sexual contact, sharing needles or other equipment (such as cotton, spoons, and water) to inject illegal drugs, handling blood or instruments used to draw blood, sharing razors or toothbrushes, and getting tattoos or body piercings with needles that were not properly cleaned. The virus also can be passed from a mother to her newborn baby during delivery (perinatal transmission).

You don't need to say who, and if you do then we will think you are gossiping.. so haul your ass to nearby deaf club... deaf club are for gossiping...

The administrador of AllDeaf probably took the names down because of the liablity issue. If you really are that concerned about those 2 anyomous girls passing around Hep. B then you should bring the issue before the Gallaudet University Board. I am not sure how Gallaudet University system works to effect a change for a more positive and better change to become enforceable.

Wait a mintune here... Take it easy and step back for a mintune , maybe that person was not doing it out of a rumor but a geninue health and safety concern here. Most Gallaudet University students are very young ( 18 to 21 years old ) and have not really experienced the real world and what the real life issues of the day are. This is a good learning experience for the person who posted the issue of the Hep. B health concerns.
