Apparently you don't understand the fair use laws, particularly related to de minimis. There is nothing dishonest about it, and it has been supported by the courts.

The kind of "quotes" used at AD would fall under "The Effect of Your Use Upon the Potential Market for the Copyrighted Work." If I reply, "make my day," it's not going to effect the rental or sales of Clintwood's movie.

Are you kidding? I hear "quotes" from movies every day. Maybe you've heard them and didn't even realize they were originally lines from movies because they've become part of the American lexicon.

Hasn't every single thing that can be said been said at some point in a movie. I guess we all need to start putting quotes around all our post from here on just to make sure we don't get sued. :roll:

Just because someone doesn't recognize it as the work of another doesn't mean that it is acceptable to present it as one's own work. That is the whole purpose of quotation and citation. And we aren't talking informal conversation here. We are talking about written use and the refusal to comply with the guidelines that one is demanding that others comply with.
