Have you seen elder students like at least age of 40 attend Gallaudet?

oh I know lots of older people decide to return to ANY colleges lately, in order to get degrees and get better jobs. I don't see anything wrong with it. i am so happy to know lots of older people returning to school. In their times, they may not have enough $$ for colleges or they were unsure what they would like to with until they had to experenice through working then they know what they wanted for.

I've been surprised at the age group in my class. I think there are only a handful of just-graduated-from-high school kids. Most of the rest seem to be at least 25 and a good handful of us are in our 30's (like me) and even some in their 40's. So it's not a "young" class. I think with so many people laid off these days, these people are getting smart about using their time by going back to school.

My mother in law graduated PhD at 52 years old. No matter any ages are more than welcome to any Universities. My mother graduated in Master degree when she was 48 years old. I graduated college at 42 years old.

Yes, I see nothing wrong when the people are interesting to learn anything... no matter how old they are... It´s good that they positive something... Many people, I know they between (30 and 50 years old) goes to college...
Are you discriminating at age ?

Yes I am wondering the same...

college has NO age requirement. College/university is NOT the same as high school and welcome ANYONE at any ages to take courses at ANY colleges/universities. simple as that.

Too bad you guys are far away on the east. In my classes (Bio, Chem, Phys) right now, I feel like I'm the oldest. I don't see any of the 30-40 age range among my peers, sadly, aside from the profs or TAs. It feels like it's just me (the 25 year guy) with the rest of the 'fresh outta high school' group. I need some of that educated base to hang out with!

Come back to school with me!

I don't think there is anything wrong of a 40-50 year old going back to college to get more training or change their careers. My mom went back to college and she's in the 50's to get certificate for basic registered nurse because she's retired from massaging clients for so many years. When I went to Santa Rosa Junior College back in the 90s, there was plenty of 30's to 40's aged students, even a few in the 50's too.

I think nat84 is not American so this whole thing is new to her. :dunno:

Absolutely. I'm very dedicated to my class. I've gotten all my homework completed ahead of schedule. (It's all online which makes it an interesting process and some getting used to - none of that existed 16-20 years ago!) And I was so well prepared for both tests I've already had (one a week) that I aced both. I find my mindset is really different - dedicated - now than from when I was in college 20 years ago.

I agree. I think also, older students don't ask: "Why do I have to learn this? It doesn't have anything to do with what I want to study!" because they see that everything has something to do with their area of study.

Every day we always learn new stuffs which helps us gain more knowledge about them. :)

BTW it is about time to see Nat84 to make a few replies in her/his thread.

I agree.. age has nothing to do with it when you want to go to college.. I went to college about 9 times in 12 years, just for interest and to gain different experiences.

Last time I studied at college was only 2 years ago, when I was 37! I loved it, we studied computer technology. The year before that, I studied Auslan as I had never properly learnt the language, I grew up with mostly Signed English and oralism.

A couple of years before the Auslan course, I studied HSC (Higher School Certificate) as I never finished that in high school due to being the only deaf at my high school. I didn't get much help so I was really frustrated and I dropped out half way through Year 11.

I decided 10 years later that I would like to finish HSC just for interest and to keep my mind sharp. :D

I've taken courses over the years at college that included commercial cooking (restaurant quality), business skills, pottery, Sign Language basics, welding, automotive repairs, etc quite some interesting courses too!

Also, I did those courses IN between jobs, during those times that I couldn't find work. I kept myself busy and updated my skills by taking college courses.

Just say you have pepper spray if they bother you again.

I met 90 years old man who just got his AA. Bizzare. He said he was hosting a party at his place. I wonder what kind of a party would this man throw? I never went, I liked my gf's better, they were in my age range. :P
