Here are 14 other uses:
  • Restore shine to your china: use a 1/2 cup in your dishwater to restore the shine
  • Cut down on water spots in the dishwasher: add 1 tablespoon in the detergent cup.
  • Mix with water to clean your aluminum pots and pans.
  • Remove stains from carpet: mix into paste, rub into the stain, let dry, vacuum
  • Liquid carpet stains: mix 1 cup 1/2 and 1/2 with water. pour on stain, blot liquid, repeat until stain disappears
  • Fresh Smelling carpet: spray mist of water, sprinkle Borax on carpet, when dry, vacuum
  • Roaches & Ants: mix with small amount powdered sugar, leave in problem areas insects will eat it and then die from the gas caused by the mixture
  • Kills fleas: sprinkle Borax on floors, leave for an hour, then remove
  • Clears drains: mix 1 cup with boiling water, pour down drain. Clogs will disappear
  • Odors in mattresses and furniture (including urine): wet areas, add Borax, wait until dry, vacuum
  • Trash can odor: Add small amount to bottom of trash cans to keep them smelling fresh
  • Soften Hard Water which can make shampoo s and soaps less effective.
  • Keep Toilet bowl clean & fresh: add 1/2 cup to toilet, let it sit for 1 hour, clean normally

Oh I got it.. I never thought Victorian has long story in the past years. Czar said funny but true?

The way I use it the vinegar and baking soda leave into the pan overnight. Next day, little bit remove the stain. I had to scrub and stubborn stain in few second. It was gone and shine likely new.

I can imagine what Czar said.. hehe.. :naughty:
 
I use it. I make my own laundry soap, use it to raise the PH in my pool. I also use it on ant hills to kill em but safe for pets/kids to walk on.
 
We haven't used it since the Wagon Train days. They were the main commercials on that show. :lol:
 
the H45(lubricant)that got over one hundred uses saw it on fb.sodium bicarbonate also..so manythings got different uses.. kim&aggie got lots of tips they good to google

I've used it for fleas. My cats had few fleas so I sprinkled it all over the carpet and vacuumed after an hour or so. I haven't seen any since. Kept my cats away from the carpets during that time.

I wouldn't put it in the cat litter. My vet says it's bad for cats. Wouldn't want them to lick it off their paws.
 
I am thinking back I have had run ins with this stuff before.

When I was in my first career I would get diesel fuel splashed on my clothes now and again. It helps to use borax in the wash while keeping that clothing separate from the rest.

Seems like I used to have a trick to keep solder from spreading when doing soldering that I wanted to look perfect. Whoa into the wayback machine, I think it was a paste mix just using water and then place it as a border using against a razor blade making it perfect and straight as going along.
Then the solder just flows to it. I am just remembering that now I would have to try and be sure.

I used it to tan beaver hides. I trapped them and made vest out of their skins. I hardly remember now it took quite a bit of borax like a pound or so probably more in water soaking them in a 5 gallon bucket. It worked okay a vest doesn't have to be real flexible. Young teenager stuff out in rural Alaska back when.

I have heard of people mixing it some way for painting in their walls and around footings and so on for keeping termites away.
 
Death Valley Days. Also a wee wittle town called Boron which is about 75 to 100 miles from where I live is where borax was taken from the ground and I believe it still does....not sure.

I mean Death Valley Days was the name of the tv program....

Thanks a hint for everyone has pets at their home. Don't put borax into the cat litter. It was not safe for cats lick off on their paws.

We use Borax as a forge welding flux to keep scale from forming on the semi-liquid steel we're hammering together.

That's my wife doing a forge weld. Those "sparks" are the spray of liquid Borax at 3000 deg F as it's getting expelled from the welding area.
 
I heard, but haven't been able to confim, that some cooks use borax as a thickening agent in foods. I use it DUI g flea season.

Use to use it, but now am allergic so I can't anymore.
 
We used to use it on taxidermied animals, on the skins, in collections in major museums but turns out over time the stuff leeches to the surface of the animal leaving it coated in a white powder.

Now they don't use anything in the skins, they just make sure they are very dry when you stuff them and the chemicals are put in the cases to keep bugs away instead of in the skins.
