Richard was a man in California who was supportive of me and offered me an apartment if I decided I couldn't take Seattle anymore and did not want to move back to Pittsburgh, but I haven't mentioned him much largely because he supported my AIDS investigation and was appalled that nobody took me more seriously. Accordingly I thought of him as a very unique and treasured friend. When I was homeless occasionally he would fling me letters that were so ennebriating and of such strength of heart that I picked myself back up during my lows, but since I know how people feel about that matter and what it has done to me I haven't made it a point to keep anyone advised about him. He was my age and ran the Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center. A controversial kid, because he would try to hardsell contraptions occasionally, there are a few articles about him in the Orange County Register basically saying, "This kid makes some of his mailing list uncomfortable." But nothing I have ever read against him convinced me he was anything other than gregarious. He had just gotten off the line with me by a matter of a few days telling me I could join him in California this April if I wanted to, but I heard about his death through this Chat Room of the Deaf Community that I've joined and like several other people who knew him, some of them from this Chat Room, where he was finally banned for being controversial, I wanted to believe it was one of his practical jokes, but it wasn't and his mother evidently is very beaten up by the news so I'm just one of the kids who knew him and liked him holding vigil and expressing my disappointment.
