Happy St. Patrick Day to AllDeaf

I am part Irish, my mom's side of the family has Irish ancestors that came to the US from Ireland around 1800. Her maiden name is Kelly. Was originally Kelley, but eventually down the lineage the 2nd e was dropped and now it's just Kelly. I think it was my great grandfather's generation that dropped the 2nd e, don't know why.

My mom and her husband went to Ireland about 5 years ago, and they learned that St. Patrick's Day is really actually a religious and quiet holiday, it's just America that went overboard with the green/nongreen pinching, drinking, insanity stuff. Yeah. The true Irish people in Ireland will go into hiding or whatever during St. Patrick's Day so they don't have to deal with the "American tourists" making a big deal out of St. Patrick's Day haha. There are celebrations that happen in Ireland, but only to appease the tourists visiting.

But anyway, my mom will usually cook corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day dinner (sometimes Irish stew, my stepdad prefers that). I've got my green on, and will go to my mom's for dinner.

I don't know about all this being "American" holiday......The pictures my daughter is sending to me look like they do it really BIG in DUBLIN!!!!!

100% Irish here!!!

Anyone wear green today? I wore green gloves while shopping, as I was wearing a black coat and blue pants, plus brown boots.

My green top was in the laundry. I wore turquoise, but never left the house. We don't do St. Paddy's day very often anymore.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!

yeah, they will have parties and parades and celebrations..... FOR the tourists expecting the chaos and insanity. For the actual folks who live in Ireland, they will go into hiding to get away from the big-time celebrations, as it's normally a quiet religious day for them.

I wore green too and yes Im Irish (well a quarter of REAL Irish i have irish temper too and irish intelligence as well...
and
there's more irish living in New York now than there are living in the ole Ireland....so it doesn't surprise me that it's an american invention guess they were slightly homesick or trying to break the racism in NYC or both....

I like beer, but not as much as I like French wines or Japanese Whiskys...or Irish Whiskey...see above that i posted the lastest buy, a 16 year old Bushmills, not easy to find in New Zealand and not drinking it now, im keeping it for a few years time 1 whisky/whiskey bottle a year...that's my rule...

Cheers

I am wearing green sweatshirt. I am not Irish. I don't want to be pinched.

My brother was born on March 17 which is today. He is or was 75 years old. I have not heard from him long time. My sister had tried to find him because he was always moving different locations. We don't know why he do that over the years. We thought maybe he might be in Wisconsin, not sure. It went silent, no response from him. Happy Birthday, Brother. I don't care much for St. Patrick's Day. I love green, purple and blue. :)

Happy St. Patrick's Day to some of the Irish fans of St. Patrick.

My holiday would be Cinco De Mayo :)

Nitpickers! It's just a fun holiday! Everyone be on your best behavior, though! Ladies don't walk alone at night or go to bars alone, and men don't be a-holes. And also if you're going out, have a designated driver or a cab. Be safe!

It's not fun for everyone. Gay veterans where not allowed to march in the St Patrick parade in Boston after all. Sam Adams beer dropped out the parade to support the gay veterans and Boston's mayor refused to be in the parade .

My daughter who lives in Ireland sent us the cutest gift ever for St. Patricks Day.
I opened the box and it says "You've been pinched" and it is full of Irish themed cookies and candy. I ate one already, a yummy white chocolate covered pretzel.

Made me smile and shed a few tears, I really miss her.
