Guns stolen from cars ending up in young hands

Regarding the title of this thread, it happens because those gun owners are completely dumb not to lock their cars in public and/or even on their driveway at home. Oh man, I hope there will be a new law that requires all gun owners to lock their cars if they leave a gun inside somewhere. No more excuses for gun owners! They are 100% liable.

If I leave a gun in my car while shopping or parking on my driveway, I will always make sure my car is locked via the security system. I can't believe that those gun owners in FLA and maybe also in other states are fools.

locking your car is not sufficiently and reasonably secured. they can easily break your window. you need to keep it inside a gun vault attached to your car.

One thing that is really bad is that a lot BB guns and toys guns are being made to look like real guns today. I saw on the news that a police thought a child had real gun and the police was ready to use his gun , the kid had BB gun that looked real . The police warned the kids about having toys guns the look real . This something parents need to think about when buying their sons toy guns .
Toy guns are required to be made with orange blaze tips on the muzzles, to show that they are toys. It's not foolproof protection though. The tips can be removed or painted black. Also, orange tips can be painted onto real guns, so there's no way for someone to be sure if a gun is real or fake at a distance.

In some jurisdictions, the BB gun is considered a firearm, not a toy.

Law brands BB guns firearms

Locking your car cuts down on the opportunistic thefts by kids who don't want to make any noise while they're stealing from cars. Of course, they can still get access into locked cars, so, like you posted, a safe is important if you MUST leave your gun in the car.

TCS has a lockable safe installed in his van.

This gun a green looking on the news so I am not sure was real color of the gun . I think BB guns are considered a firearm in my city . Yeah I know kids remove the orange blaze tips , that was not brought on the news . I had a toy gun growing up but it looked like a toy gun .
A boy was killed when sitting in a car and holding a toy gun out window.
Someone called the police and the boy did not drop the gun and he was killed. :( Parents need to tell their sons not to remove the orange tips on their toy guns and bring them into the public .

Can the safe be removed from the van easy or it's bolted onto the van ?
Kids go around at night looking for unlocked cars in my city to steal cell phones etc , and break in to cars that are parked in a parking lot . People really should not leave anything in their car .

Saw an episode of Scared Straight on the A&E channel...the jailers were educating the parents about the orange tip on toy guns....

OK, why didn't those gun owners whose guns were stolen from their cars do that?

My point is that people are too dumb not to lock their cars via a security system when their gun is stored inside their cars.

“People are not necessarily doing smash-and-grabs so much in vehicles, because they know if they check enough cars, they'll find some unlocked,” News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith said. “In fact, about 50 percent of cars that are stolen, or had items stolen out of cars, are unlocked.”
In 2014 the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office reported 68 gun thefts from cars. In 50 of those cases, the cars were unlocked.
What's the matter with the gun owners? I assume that they have no brain.

Bolted.

The safe within the car is there if the person needs to go somewhere where firearms are prohibited: a doctor's appointment, the post office, etc., and the car should always be locked. I find it shocking that many people don't do this....stunned when federal employees drop the ball on this given how serious the consequences are...it's one of the key violations that is always repeated for good reason...one can be terminated, especially if the gun was used in a crime. I always lock my car in the garage when I take the train and with no firearms in the car either. Why is anyone making it easier for a thief? It's like leaving your home unlocked or leaving a ground level window open. Safes/lock boxes are not intended to be long term security. When not secured, the gun should always be on one's person. I'm glad I'm not that FBI agent - this is going to be only the start of really long and uncomfortable series of meetings with management for that person....

Maybe because no alarms went off? :dunno:

Surprisingly, having read many local crime reports, and my neighborhood Crime Watch FB, I've learned that most theft victims admit that they left their cars unlocked. On my neighborhood walks, I notice garage doors left open, bicycles left on front lawns, and other signs of carelessness.

I was down town once and saw a person locking his car doors and walking away . I was like HUH? They left the top down if they had anything in the trunk a person could pop it open very easy .

There are many stupid people around there.

You can't fix the stupid.
