Ferguson, Missouri (CNN)A day of peaceful vigils to mark the one-year anniversary of Michael Brown's shooting death turned ugly late Sunday night when at least two shooting incidents sent protesters running for cover and prompted more police reinforcements.

At least one of the incidents was an officer-involved shooting that occurred after police came under heavy gunfire, said St. Louis County Police spokesman Shawn McGuire.

No officers were injured, the department said. It said it will release more details later.

Some of the shots rang out as reporters were talking to Ferguson's acting police chief, Andre Anderson.

Ferguson Demonstrations: Authorities Declare State of Emergency

St. Louis authorities declared a state of emergency Monday as they prepared for a second night of protests marking a year since a police officer killed Ferguson teen Michael Brown.

The move was announced by St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger, who cited the violence that marred protests Sunday night in Ferguson.

"The recent acts of violence will not be tolerated in a community that has worked so tirelessly over the last year to rebuild and become stronger," Stenger said in a statement.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office announced criminal charges against a man authorities say exchanged gunfire with police officers Sunday night. Tyrone Harris, 18, who remained hospitalized in critical condition, was charged with four counts of assault on law enforcement, five counts of armed criminal action, and one count of shooting at a motor vehicle.

As authorities girded for another tumultuous night, police arrested non-violent protesters outside the federal courthouse in St. Louis following a noontime march through the city's downtown.

The demonstrators arrived at the Thomas F. Eagleton Federal Courthouse a half-hour after setting out from Christ Church Cathedral, pounding drums and shouting, "If we don't get no justice, then they don't get no peace."

At the courthouse steps, clergy members encouraged the others to spread anointing oil — a symbolic effort to bring equal justice to people of all races. Several protesters, including Princeton professor and civil rights activist Cornel West, then hopped a temporary gate, linked arms and sat outside the building's entrance.

"This is what democracy looks like," the protesters chanted.

After about 20 minutes, a cadre of officers showed up and began taking them into custody. Among those led away in handcuffs were West and activists DeRay Mckesson and Johnetta Elzie.

The St. Louis Department said 56 people were arrested.

This better not become an annual event. Will it? I hope not!

Same here , there is a video showing the 19 yo boy was holding a gun when he was shot by the police . Anyone that bring a gun to a protest or rally has to have a death wish .

Even cops....how true....how true

Violence still going on. looting and shootings. blocking traffic on highways and expressways....Seen videoes with their faces covered...and the worst part?....They are bringing children to these protests! In danger of getting killed....

Please excuse me in saying these "animals" are out of control and not doing a thing to promote "Black Lives Matter"...all they are promoting is violence. And if they want to act and do in this manner...for the love of God!...keep the children and babies out of it...

Anyone that bring their child(ren) to a riot should be arrested for child endangerment ! I wouldn't bring my dog to a riot .
