It usually depends on the couple.
In most cases, the engagement is a surprise and too soon to have a date. After a few weeks, a date will be set and wedding plans are made.
Most weddings happen within a year after engagement. I've seen a lot of engagements that lasted longer than a year... end up in failure cuz either one was too impatient.
