GRRRR.... calling through relay makes me frustrated!!!

I have noticed with VP calls, I dont have the same problem with hang ups as I used to with relay calls. Did anyone have the same experience? That's why I dont use relay calls thru the Internet or TTYs anymore.

Oh, sorry, I forgot to add that I don't have a problem with the relay service thru the internet. They treat me nicely. (I downloaded Nextalk and I noticed that they do have VP and VRS. Actually, I haven't tried them but I prefer to use TTY (text).

Well, yes. They enable us to get banking and important errands done efficeintly.

For me going in person I believe gives me an advantage.

I see your point, sure; but for everyday, mundane calling, the ability for us to access this technology puts us on an even footing with the rest of the world except for the kinds of things we hear happening all the time. I guess its the cross we have to bear.......no, I take that back...people like the OP is talking about just need educating.

I agree...

I use a CapTel and so places that I call don't know that I am Deaf unless I mention it. I run into a problem when someone (person or business) calls me, then I have to ask them to wait just a few seconds (3-5) until the relay tem is ready, then to continue. Usually it's the bill collectors that aren't too polite about it. I had someone from the phone company ask me why I was so slow in responding to their questions. I mentioned that I was reading what the relay person sent and they said I needed to have a better life and to learn to enjoy myself more. That made no sense and I said that, they then said I didn't make sense with what I said and hung up. Needless to say, I now only do business with AT&T online.

One thing I hate about making relay calls, especially very important ones, is that right smack in the middle of an extremely important call such as if I'm giving out very important information, all of a sudden the relay operator goes "switching operators, please hold" and it puts my call at risk of being hung up on because many hearies on the other end will go "WTF?" and often hang up on me, and it makes me so frustrated!

Just so you guys know - a lot of them relay operators are convicted felons.

It's true.

They also make around $8-9 an hour.

I believe you are telling the truth, plus I like to be completely in charge of my own business, hence I do things the way I previously described.

Yeah, just think of how many times CC #'s go through the hands of a relay operator.

If I was an operator with a felon background - a lot of people would have been f'd. I have one of better memories for numbers and that stuff would just stick in my mind.

Some non-FCC certified VRS or Relay operators can be "snatch and order" just like stealing a CC# with security codes on the back of card.
