people buys the greyhounds for racing. 1 round racing.... 2 round racing... 3 round racing... then final racing. Greyhound who lose the race then kill greyhoud, why!?
 
In Wisconsin the greyhound race used to kill greyhounds when they weren't doing well in races. The animal rights protested and since then, the greyhounds had been adopted when they retire from racing. I know someone who took two greyhounds from there. I couldn't believe how large they were...long enough to cover the whole coach. Their noses are so long, sleeky and beautiful. Their fur is very soft and short. They make good housepets once they trust their owners to always be kind to them.
 
If they are not doing good in racing, people should keep/training greyhounds instead kill them.
 
i heard greyhound is one of those best pet dogs. theyre great with people, children, and other pets. unfortunately, too many people had no idea because they only knew greyhound is reputed as race dog. i remember i saw an interview on TV that they were discussing to get the goverment to sign for a new law to rescue greyhounds after they bred for race. im crossing fingers to let that happen SOON, that and id hope they will stop the race.
did you know that at least 1 out of 5 or as MANY as than that number of puppies is picked for race, what happened to the other puppies? executed. a man has a job to get paid $100 or a couple of hundred bucks to shoot them after they raced for many years. piles of skeletons were lying in his backyard, at least 400 of greyhounds. :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

Yes, it is really sad about the way greyhounds are treated. I was fortunate enough to learn about what kind of pets they are through some time I spent living with an ex-girlfriend and her husband. They were pretty into the greyhound rescue and adoptions around Aurora in Illinois. They had 3 of their own greyhounds, and one that was with them for long time care after an operation on a leg tumor. They also had 2 mixed breed dogs and a great dane, as well as other greyhounds or great danes would stay for a few days or weeks at a time while they dogsat for owners or prepared dog to meet adopting family.

Greyhounds are very loving and playful dogs who are great with kids and are very loyal. Word of warning tho, even though they are rather large dogs, they seem to think they are lap dogs. :doh:
 
Yes, I heard about it. I think that is so disgusted.

Most dogs who slow down and become unprofitable are either killed immediately or sold to research laboratories. An estimated 28,000 greyhounds are killed each year as the greyhound racing business struggles to stay alive. :::strung:::

In one instance in Arizona, 143 greyhounds were found shot to death and hidden in an orchard. :mad2: That pissed me off, because greyhounds are usually gentle, quiet, and friendly.. Why would they want to kill them just because they are not worthly in the race. Dumb excuse if you ask me.
 
In florida you cant kill greyhounds.If grayhounds get old go to the kennel or hope someone adopts them. West palm beach and miami police depts are very serous place the owner under arrest who kills greyhound dogs.

Under Florida law, Greyhounds may not be euthanized by any means other than lethal injection, and may not be removed from the state for the purpose of being destroyed. Although it is against Florida law to transport greyhounds across state lines.

And theyre protected here. So if you love greyhound racing come to florida.
 
Greyhounds are not for everyone. They are sight hounds and will get lost if they take off after something, they're not keen on their sense of smell for finding their way back home. Its a must having a fence if owning a greyhound, thats what I was told by several friends that are greyhound owners.
 
Our neighbors have rescued greyhounds for pets. :)

Many people who race greyhounds think of the dogs as property, not living beings. That is why they destroy the "losers". :(
