A film clip made for the UK's National Health Service has drawn criticism for its graphic depiction of a schoolgirl giving birth in a playground while being watched by students.

The film's shocking content resulted in it being pulled from video-sharing Web site YouTube, but it has since reappeared on the site in several forms.

The video clip was made for the NHS in a bid to cut the rising number of teenage pregnancies across the UK, and appears to show real footage shot on a mobile phone.

Shocked viewers responded strongly to the playground birth video, and comments included "pretty sick."

Tim Rideout, chief executive of NHS Leicester City, told UK Web site Metro.co.uk: "We know this film is hard-hitting but so are the numbers of under-18s getting pregnant in Leicester (England).

"Nearly half the city's wards are classed as teen pregnancy hotspots," he said.

He said that traditional marketing, such as leaflets and posters, did not get the teenage sex and pregnancy message across to the target demographic.

I have not looked at the link...

but since the child is a minor, is that even legal to show such??

but still if a girl had given birth on a playground, and no one intervened to rush her to the hospital, it would have made world news, that alone tells me there is something fishy about it. I get that they are trying to scare kids into abstinence (I think any girl would die of embarassment from going into labor on the slide), but what got them in trouble is the graphic nature of it as well as the fact that the girl is a minor.

I watched the video - there wasn't much to see - I don't think it was the actual mother giving birth, but a "depiction" as the article stated. They were trying to make a point, and it was made, just wasn't the actual mother I do not think.

Seeing the above post... I still refuse to click on such. To even mention a teen. Fake or real.

This "ad" is an intentional slap in the face to the parents of children having babies.

Remember the little Alfie who was 13 years old and taking care of his little daughter? Turns out he wasn't the father, only to find out the girl was shagged by other boys.

The Leicester community is trying to "deflect" the negative attention away from this story by doing the ad.

Her "stuff" isn't showing. I think it is fake....

of course it's fake. it's a shock factor. Shock factor is pretty effective in sending out the dire message.

there's no sex. there's no exposed private part. none. they're all fully clothed.

oh ok no problem. would you like me to describe it though? it's nothing gross but more like "wtf?" for like 3 sec at the end.

I am with you, it's sick even if it was just a joke. The baby would never deserve to born in that environments and would be very embrassement for the mother.

wonder where were the teachers? umm

Probably having coffee in the teachers lounge?....I dunno what to think about this video either. It's possible, yes. And a good shock factor for pre-teens and teens to see....But to me, it's too extreme, I would not let my teens see this video.

yeah. i rather not let my kids to see it. This isn't what kids need to learn about the sex education material at all.
Probably it is fake. there is no way for no teachers to be around kids. If it were the case, then the parents won't be too happy about it.

yes it fake to me so far... also i think it good commerical to them because it seem like education that they should not have sex early age! you know i mean.. that is thier way in UK...

if i have my own kid, i would let them to watch bec it seems education.. it will teach them if good idea or not.. so they can ask me , "" hey dad, that is not good idea to have that happen, i would say good boy you smart! then i do education them.. blah..

that ..

Seems like a wrong approach to "deflect", heh?
