I read this today and it is real pathetic that Palin is accusing us Democrats of spreading rumors and lies when we can find videos and articles about her from the past!

Palin: Democrats spreading misinformation and lies

Mobile News Network : Palin: Democrats spreading misinformation and lies

(yes, it is a mobile formatted page but readable though as I emailed it to my addy from AP's Mobile News Network app on iPhone)

She fingerpointed liberals for misleading and lies about her daughter at few days ago and now she fingerpointed Democrats... What´s a pathetic...

Obama/Biden are not responsible to make misinformation. Obama/Biden said at few days ago to keep children out of political/election issues.

:ty: Liebling. Yes, some just misunderstand what Obama's positions really are. But it seems that more and more people are beginning to understand. That's a good thing.

Willkommen :)

Yes I notice it, too.

Yeah she is.

It´s not her business to dictate what and how women wants to do with their fetuses... and also gay rights as well.

It´s not just abortion and gays rights but sex education, education, healthcare... mainly worst is books!!!!!!!!

Palin wanted to ban books from the local library, tried to fire librarian for refusing : politics

Sadly, USA is less tolerate on GLBT than most part of Europe, Canada and some other countries better than last few decade ago.

I don't believe in people who trying control on my life, which is right or wrong, Sarah can talk whatever she want but she would get lose the respect towards to GLBT and pro-choice.

Not surprised, I have admit that republican party aren't perfect either, we had crappy job for almost 8 years, time for change and get over with existing Bush's system.

I found funny thing about many Europeans don't agree with US government issue, especially in after Bush got in office, yet, UK support US, such as assist US to send troopers in Iraq.

Without doubt, my state would be blue.

I have a question. During the Democratic convention, interpreters were very noticeable, and I noticed them during all the speeches and presentations. Granted, the film by Spielburg should have had CC, but at least a terp was used during the presentation.

I watched the majority of the Rebublican convention. Did anyone see a terp anywhere? I didn't. Not even during McCain's acceptance speech. Not during Palin's acceptance speech.

Palin, in her speech, stated that, as a mother with a child with special needs, she understood what mothers with exceptional children went through, and she would be a strong advocate for disability rights in the White House. Well, firstly, I disagree with the statement that she knows what mothers of special needs children go through. Her son is 4 months old. She hasn't even started down that road. She has never sat in an IEP meeting fighting for that child's educational rights. She has never had to worry about the expense of early intervention. She has never worried about getting that child proper medical care, or providing any kind of therapy that her insurance won't cover. Frankly, she is clueless regarding what the average mother of a child with a disability goes through on a dalily basis. But what's more important, she opbviously is not as aware as she claims to be about disability rights in general. If she is such a strong advocate for disability rights, why didn't she demand that interpreters be present and visable during her own speech, much less during the entire convention?

If this is an example of how strongly she, or anyone else in the Republican party, will advocate for and uphold the rights of the disabled in this country, we all need to be very, very worried.

Actually that wasn't what caught my eye about the RNC.

What caught my eye? That the RNC was at least 90% white. For a party that is trying to reach out to all Americans, they surely forgot the minorities of this country.

To me--it looked like a white supremacist meeting. :giggle:

I noticed that right off. Commented to a friend watching it with me the first night that it had to be the least diverse gathering of people I had seen in years. I think, to be honest, I used the phrase "white bread" to describe the gathering. That should tell us something right there.

If you are not white, heterosexual, disability free, Christian, and relatively wealthy, don't count on any support from the McCain-Palin adminsitration.

Yes, I did. I saw a male interpreter to McCain's right side during his acceptance speech.

Often the on-camera viewable presence of the terp has more to do with the network camera direction decisions and less with the physical set up of the stage. The more close ups and mid shots of the speakers and audience, the fewer mid-long range shots where a terp would normally show up.

...If she is such a strong advocate for disability rights, why didn't she demand that interpreters be present and visable during her own speech, much less during the entire convention?
We don't know how visible the terps were to the live audience. They could have very well been in clear sight to the live deaf audience without us seeing them in the TV broadcast. We just don't know that.

I saw interpreter on right side. If you watch Palin, or McCain, you can see it on right side. I know the interpreter that was there. All I can say... whoa!

I am very curious how many deaf attended Democrat convention compared to Republican convention. Any one have a clue? I cant pull information from my friend interpreter that I saw on TV. All he said, he is the interpreter at RNC. He wont tell me how many deaf. Good friend of mine...

What channel were you watching?

They were certainly visable in the live broadcast of the Democratic National Convention.

Given the population make up of the RNC, I'd say few, if any.

I stand corrected. There was one interpreter to the right of McCain and Palin. What about the rest of the time?

To be representative of the USA population, what percentages of each color group would you expect to see?

If you are not white, heterosexual, disability free, Christian, and relatively wealthy, don't count on any support from the McCain-Palin adminsitration.
Since a roving video camera scanning a crowd can't ask if a person is Christian, or has a disability, or their income level, or their sexual orientation, how would you know who was present? For the "white" issue, how do you know how much "non-white" blood any person in a crowd has without asking? Whoa! That sounds mighty close to the Nazi era measuring of "blood" percentages. We don't want that, do we?

The people behind the cameras and at the directors' control panels have their own focus. If they want to emphasize diversity or non-diversity, they will with their camera choices. If they want to emphasize goofy hats, non-rhythmic dancing, cute kids, or protesters, they will do that also. What you see on TV doesn't always reveal an accurate picture of what's happening. That includes all public gatherings that are televised.

What channel were you watching?
Various; we wanted to see how the different networks carried the convention speeches.

They were certainly visable in the live broadcast of the Democratic National Convention.
More visible on camera perhaps. That doesn't mean anything to the live audience. Terps are usually positioned where they are most effective for the live audience of an event unless there is a particular need for showing them clearly in a broadcast, such as for emergency notifications.

Your friend is probably observing professional confidentiality. :)

Most disabilities are quite visable. The camera would make them obvious.

The people behind the cameras are news cameramen. They were not hired to present pictures of diversity or non-diversity. The camera show what was there. One population was quite diverse, the other not so.

Given the diverse population repressentative of this countries population as a whole, I would expect to at least be visable persons in wheel chairs, blind persons, persons of Hispanic decent, persons of Asian decent, persons of Mediteranian decent, etc, etc, etc, that would be proportionately the same as found in the general population. This was not the case at the RNC.

So, the deaf population at the RNC was restricted to the right side of the candiates closest to the stage?

Stating that there were a small number, a moderate number, or a large number is not a breach of confidentiality. Stating the names of those numbers is.

Thusly I question the McCain-Palin ticket's ability to lead a very diverse country.

I believe this movement of advocating disability is a first. Have you heard of Democrat advocating disability as for president? Talk about autism, down syndrome and education.

Did you know that McCain was one of biggest advocate of ADA and got Old Bush to sign into action. McCain is no stranger of disabilities as he was a board of Gallaudet until protest. Some will argue he chicken out but I say he was getting himself ready for President nominations process to begin as he announced few months after he resigned as Board of Trustee for Gallaudet.

I am big fan of Republicans because it teach us to be independence as much as we can. We do not need spoons from Government to take care all of our problems. Some areas are good as ADA and SSDI. I am supporter of SSDI if they have attempt to work for many years and laid off.

I am not supporter of SSI if they do not use ticket to work process.

I am just afraid that Obama will raise a lot taxes from everyone. He said tax on rich people... didnt you know that less than 2.5% of Americans are offically rich rich as earning more than $250,000 a year. If we tax on rich and lower taxes on middle and poor... we will lose more money.

I recently read comparison between Obama and McCain's views on taxes on housing. I was shocked to see the comparisons. I will work on the sources and valid the information. Then add my explanation why it can be dangerous in each tax methods that Obama and McCain. How it will impact on you as home ownership and impact economy of housing crisis.

I haven't taken side yet but leaning a lot to McCain because of house taxes and enconomy housing crisis.

Allow me create a thread about housing tax that Obama vs McCain. It's scary taxes codes to see. Just need time to clean up the sources issue and valid its sources. Then I will post it. It will definitely stir up discussion on AllDeaf.
