Got new HA:)

Ook..My ha booklet it came with mentions AudioZoom...and another thing..has anyone ever had there ha sound a bit watery? Like u hear running water? i dunno maybe its just me and im hearing just amplification..i dunno lol
And actually no it is the canal part of the mold, the hole where the tubing goes in where he cut is a bit scratchy but i will get him to just fix it next week...

Congrats on getting a new hearing aid!!! I'm new to this site! I was searching for reviews about my new hearing aid that I got this past Tuesday - Phonak Savia 311. This is the first time I got a BTE and I'm not liking it too much, maybe I'm not used to it. My outer (behind) ear tends to hurt after wearing it for an hour or so. I'd always wore the ITC hearing aid since I was 10.

Anyway, so for rattling on...quick question, I'm American Singaporean so I have black hair. Should I change my BTE cover to black? Do you think it will hide better? I'm only 23 years old and I do care about appearance and don't want people to gwak at me. =T

Also, could anyone explain to me what an audiozoom is?

I have black hair as well and instead of a soft mold i have a clear harder plastic skeleton mold and clear tubing and I haven't had anyone look at me funny really..and if they see it they must not really care cuz i dont get weird looks...and black blends in so well! I love it my bte, maybe u just need time to adjust to yours.
And audio zoom is a program that someone can put on a phonak ha..not exactly sure what the program does but i think it mite block out certain sounds to focus on one..but not totally sure..i go on friday to get i think one or 2 programs and an adjustment..so ill let u know how it goes!!

In my right ear I currently wear my old hearing aid that is well over 15 years old and I don't think it has broken once.

I've also had similar luck with my analog aids that are over 16 years old and have never required a single repair. :)

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my digital HAs. Prior to receiving my CIs, my digital HAs needed to be sent in for repair twice in one year due to a damaged microphone and amplifier. In addition, the performance of my digital HAs was very touchy when exposed to extremely cold temperatures and would oftentimes shut off completely. Interestingly enough, I never had that problem with my analogs.

So i got one program added today and it drops my back 2nd mic and kicks in my mic closer to the top so that it drowns out background noise from behind me..So we will see how that works in noisy environments..He also was very surprised cuz he said I have been wearing my ha for an avg of 14 hours and thats really good considering im a first time user and i've only had it for not even 2 weeks yet. Also my ha was put up another volume setting so it added a few more decibles and I go to add another program, which prolly will be the set up of my fm system in august/september,

im not sure wat else program i would think to add...what else is there..it wasn't my regular audi who programmed it today it was another since mine is on holidays for 2 weeks, so he didn't give me much info on programs and what I could pick. My audi last time said he'd give me a list of programs this time and I could look at them and pick what would be good..but i didnt get a chance since he wasnt there...anyways excited bout my new program..i haven't really used it yet..but ill keep u posted

wow I had no idea digitals had come such a long way since I had one back in the late 90s where the audi was the only one that could make adjustments.

Wearing for 14 hours a day? Thats really good for a first timer. When I had mine I was required by my parents to wear it every waking hour dispite my complaints of it driving me up the wall. When I complained they told me I just needed to suck up and get used to it, and asking for adjustments was a pain.

If digitals really have come a long way from what they were in the 90s, Im up for trying them again without the pressure of the parents having it for their conveinence only.

Congrats on your new aids and I hope you enjoy the new sounds. :)

Dixie,

I know what you mean about being surprised by how far digital HAs have come. I received my first (and only) pair of digitals in 1995 or 1996 and if I remember correctly, digital aids were just starting to enter the market. My digital aids were also programmed by hand -- there were no computers involved. Sometimes I wonder how much different digital HAs sound today vs. back then. If I didn't have CIs and could still benefit from HAs, I would consider giving them another try. :)

I had my digital HA from 98-99. In late 99 I quit wearing it altogether.

If you want to really hear something, try wearing a watch with a second hand, rest your head on the hand that has the watch on your wrist. You will hear the ticking. This is why I don't wear a watch anymore. :giggle:

That happend to me 3 days ago, I was resting my head on my arm & I heard this weird ticking noise & was like Wtf? Then when I lifted my head up & my mom laughed at me & told me I had my watch imprinted on the side of my face, I then figured out the source of the mysterious ticking noise

Usually Phonaks programs go:

Calm situations
Speech in Noise (your prog 2 now)
Comfort in Noise
Music (which is actually near identical to your program 1 now)

These are aside from whatever telecoil is in the hearing aid.

Yes thats what it's called speech in noise program.i couldn't remember! lol..Yea i haven't been able to use it much because i haven't been in that much of a noisy situation needing to talk one on one but for sure this week since i'm working full days for extra hours (i work at a bank)..oh i dont think i have telecoil setting in my ha...
So today I was in my room and i thought my ha was making the weirdest noise and i was trying to figure out where it was coming from..and i coudnt..i kept looking around me seeing where it cud be coming from and i gave up and went downstairs well then my ha started to beep..lol i needed to change the battery!! lol so i did and the noise went away..i thought it was my hard drive from my computer in my room..:s lol silly me!

You have a telecoil setting on the hearing aid (all BTE's come with a telecoil). If you didn't, I'd love to know what they're going to use to run an FM system through.

The main thing I am noticing is that you have a great attitude towards your hearing aids and getting accustomed to them.

Oh haha really..so if i use the phone with my ha ear will it automatically switch to the "t" mode then?
Thanks so much im glad to hear that! I think I'm doing well and im so pleased with them, if i ended up having to get a 2nd ha later on i dont think it would be much of a problem! but for now im great with one!!! :)

If it isn't active thru the programming, then the audiologist has to activate the telecoil via the programming. Most BTE's don't have automatic telecoils, they are usually manual (switch or button on the hearing aid). :D
