I got my HA today from my audi, the one from the dog chomping incident. New earmolds too! :D

Glad to hear it. Never heard of a HA been chewed on by a dog. I have heard many other kinds of er "excuses" about the dog...;)

My one and only incident with a HA was many moons ago when I was doing a fun "boxing" match with my brother's friend. He hit me just right next to my ear and my HA went flying off. We looked everywhere for the stupid thing. Found it later on the curb smashed by a car running over it. Fortunately, I had an old spare and that we had insurance on it.

Cool! :)

None of my dogs (pets or my previous and current guide dog) have ever chewed on my HAs. (I always made sure to keep them stored in their HA case high on a shelf out of reach -- although I know the circumstances in which your dog chewed your HA -- it certainly couldn't be avoided.)

My analog Oticon BTEs survived a washing machine cycle :) but aside from that, I haven't had any incidents since.

I take that back. There was the time I came close to losing my CI processor after leaning against a file cabinet. LOL!

yeah, that would be just as bad to lose a CI processor....probably worse. I at least had 1 aid to help get by for a couple of weeks.

I accidently put one of my hearing aids in the washing machine too. It survived and I reckon that it sounded slightly better too! It's not a bad way of cleaning ear moulds either. Maybe it helped that it was a front loading machine, which tends to have lower water levels?

Fortunately, I have spare CI processors, so if one (or both) is/are damaged or lost, I still have the spare(s) I can use. I'm also bilateral, so if I didn't have spares and one processor stopped working, I still have the other. :)

Some CI centers loan processors to CI users who lose or damage their original processors.

Oh yes...I had forgotten about another incident I had with a HA. I dropped my HA into the pool (long story). Man, talk about having a heart attack. Fortunately, I did a quick resusitation on it and it wasn't the worst for wear.

Hear Again - Yes, I love the fact I have two CIs as one is always a spare "just in case".

Yep, I have a spare CI processor too as well!

A few weeks ago, I was talking with my friends at bowling and I turned my head too quickly, my CI went flying right off! I nearly had a heart attack as I was trying to find my CI...luckily my fiance saw where it went and bent down to pick it up and gave it back to me, I was SO glad!

LOL! That could be. :)

The washing machine my HAs got caught in was a top loading machine. When I removed my HAs, I was very surprised to find absolutely no damage. I wonder if my digital HAs would have survived the same fate? LOL!

Whew! Thank goodness he found it!

I had something similar happen to me. I was in a restaurant eating dinner with my sister when I flipped my hair back. One of my processors came off, flew into the air and landed on the floor. Fortunately my sister saw where it landed and picked it up before anyone stepped on it. Yikes!

I do too. :) I think all CI centers should provide their patients with spare processors -- especially if they have one CI. Of course, money is a consideration and because of that, some CI centers cannot afford to provide more than one processor to each patient.

Some people use double sided 3M surgical tape to prevent this sort of thing happening. My friend lent me some and it does seem to work pretty well. You put a little bit on the processor where it rests on the ear and it seems to last for a few days.

I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion! :)

At least it didn't go into somebody's dinner or coffee :giggle:

The strangest place I've had a patient misplace their hearing aid.....in a bag of Doritos. I have no clue how or why, she was 67yrs old.

Ironically she was the same patient who gave me nothing but problems because she claimed her hearing aids beeped all the time when she was home. She was at her wits end and thought I was an idiot. Claimed they only did it in her house, beeped every 2min or something. I thought she was pulling my leg, and then I started getting mad (didn't make sense). One trip to her house to experience these possessed hearing aids in her home, she was right. The fix......change the batteries in her smoke alarms. :run:

You're luckier than I was when I forgot to check the pockets of my jeans for any HAs. My brand new HA did not survive the washing cycle. I also hated that hearing aid as it was so powerful it kept giving me headaches.

I got a new HA that wasn't so painful to wear so I guess it worked out for the best.

OMG! LOL!

You know, I had a similar experience. It was not long after my first CI was activated. I kept hearing this repetitive beep, but couldn't tell where it was coming from. I asked a neighbor to come to my apartment so he could check things out. I told him I thought the beeps were coming from an answering machine I had purchased a few days before. Upon further inspection, it turned out to be my smoke detector. I just about died from embarrassment. :( Fortunately my neighbor (which I didn't know until he mentioned it) was totally deaf in one ear, so he completely understood my inability to tell where the beeps were coming from. LOL!
