GOP Rep says blacks better off under slavery

...He is actually saying that blacks were better off under slavery than today's legal system that allows blacks to have the freedom to decide, and that includes having the right to have abortion.
There is no where in that text where he says "blacks were better off under slavery."

If he truly said that, please give us a source. I couldn't find one where he said, "blacks were better off under slavery."

He did chastise Americans for accepting slavery for so long. He did state that accepting abortion is harmful to black families, just as accepting slavery was harmful to black families.

That is not saying that, "blacks were better off under slavery."

You criticized the source as if the source is lying or biased - it isn't. He is actually saying that blacks were better off under slavery than today's legal system that allows blacks to have the freedom to decide, and that includes having the right to have abortion.

It's as if being slave is much better - I mean, 40 years of hard labor and abuse - always shackled to their owners who treat them as properties... wow, sounds better than giving blacks the freedom to make reproductive choices with their own bodies.

Nice try. Stupid.

Your citation has already proved misleading.

I will wait until I see a full transcript from a reliable source before making a decision. You can take a paragraph out of any speech and make a person sound bad.

may i suggest that yall find the sources source? get the info straight from the horses mouth not the horses a--? just a thought...

"Far more black children, far more of the African-American community is being devastated by the policies of today, than were being devastated by the policies of slavery."

He's making a relative comparison. It's obvious. He thinks today's legal system is WORSE for blacks than the slavery system, so in other words, blacks would be better off being slaves than being free with today's policies.

You are wrong.. it came from that Frank's mouth... and now he's an a$s. :giggle:

No. He said that people in the past ignored the horrors of slavery, just as people today ignore the horrors of abortion. People today are shocked that the people of the past could so easily accept slavery, and yet people today are not shocked that they can so easily accept abortion, which occurs in even larger numbers.

He's saying if so many more black families are being devastated today, why can't we see that happening? It's easy for us to criticize Americans of the past for being blind to slavery, and yet we are blind to abortion.

He doesn't say they were better off. He said, "It [slavery] is a crushing mark on America's soul."

And he is saying that a free black woman having the *freedom* to have an abortion is even worse.

Perhaps you should argue this on a hearing site. The statement posted is only a small portion of the interview. This being a DEAF site it's hard to make a determination based on one small quote from a biased blog site and a video with no captions. Unless you are willing to provide support for your argument that is accessible to the majority of people who visit this site it's really going to be a meaningless point.

One might even say your point is falling on deaf ears.

There is NO out of context quotes. He's saying exactly what he said.

I'd rather be aborted and not know than to be shackled to a lifetime of slavery which involves pain and labor - absolutely no freedom.
