How about try and change your definition of "normal" to "different"? At least, in this context. The fact of the matter is that everyone is different. So given that everyone is different, that's what makes us "normal". No? Would it be normal if two or more people were exactly the same? Of course not.
Some people have Asthma. Are they normal people? Yes
Some people have Diabetes. Are they normal people? Yes
Some people have freckles. Are they normal people? Yes
Some people have ginger hair. Are they normal people? Yes
Some people have blonde hair. Are they normal people? Yes
Some people wear glasses. Are they normal people? Yes
Putting people into two groups consisting of:
"Normal"
and
"Not normal"
Is not a good thing to do. It's incredibly flawed. Most people can see that and those who don't, are often deemed to be very narrow minded. Things are NOT black or white. Unfortunately for you, I think that's why you will never understand.
I wish I could help you more but I can't help thinking that I'm way out of my depth.
Considering he was educated in a "special needs" classroom, you have to remember quite a few of them are TAUGHT to believe they are not "normal" and there is something wrong with themselves. He is just regurging what other people has taught him to internalize.
