Giant snowball causes thousands of dollars in damages to college dorm

The neighborhood watch won't prevent the children from playing snowball - it is very myth.

I used to live in area with neighborhood watch but crime was still bad.

Then why do we have officers coming around here quite a bit? I see them around my area everyday; it's pretty common to see a CPD SUV around my parts on a daily basis.

but they don't patrol 24/7.

Yes they do. This city never sleeps, and we have two 24-hour train lines, and several buses that run 24 hours a day, so therefore, the Chicago Police Department are required to be a 24/7 department, especially because one of those 24 hour buses isn't far from my home-- the #22 Clark bus.

Why are you deny that? Police officers don't patrol around your area 24/7.

I'm serious, trust me and having neighborhood watch will NOT make you more safer, based on my experience in past.

Oh those nasty cops arresting little kids making a snowman, playing catch or god forbid door bell ditch. Really Mark, cops have more important things to do and people calling 911 to report such trivial stuff are misusing the system.

I only call 911 in an real emergency. I don't need the police to deal with kids. Property management can do that, but I'm not supposed to do anything reckless.

I used to go out with my friends and TP people's houses as a kid. It was fun.

I am not denying it-- I am merely stating the facts. This area has multiple transportation methods, and not only that, the Howard Red Line station is constantly patrolled by police, and that's in my area-- just a mile from my home, in fact. If you don't believe me, look up the Howard Red Line, and see where it's at, and you'll see why police are constantly around here. That, and the fact the Metra goes through here, too. And that McDonald's is always attracting a rowdy crowd, and police are constantly showing up there on a daily basis; I've noticed more patrols since that murder close to here; I can't say I'm surprised.

Well, they don't watch you 24/7.

There are a lot of smart criminals, trust me.

Nope, they don't, but they'd like to get their hands on that killer. And yes, there are a few smart ones, but mainly dumb ones around here-- they're always getting themselves caught one way or another.

A lot smart criminals? Not really, perhaps less than 10% of them are really smart, and 2% or less are really really smart. Depends on their IQ level.

For example Frank W. Abagnale, Jr. He is very, very smart con artist, took FBI 5 years to find him I think. He was caught when he was in wrong place, wrong time end up made best friend with FBI agent, HOWEVER that time he did run, eventually got caught in Europe and that was few years later!

link is no longer working for the news article.

College days were full of pranks and young adults getting some mischief out of their system in a way to vent off those stresses from classes....and learning boundaries of adulthood...

its like the last edge of a childhood in some sense.

the difference between a smart criminal and smart non-criminal is....

the criminal was dumb enough to get caught, opened their pie holes to brag, or get seen by someone then it becomes a crime. The truly smart ones were the ones that were never caught so no crime was committed or was never seen/heard/existed.

sorry to those poor saps getting the blame for someone elses deeds.
