I am sorta embarrassed to bring this up. but gee whiz.
Last night there was a Disney movie, Little House on the Prairie.
Near the end of the movie, there were these wolves chasing this horse with riders, and the riders were terrified.
The wolves apparently caught up and EEEEK, there was a battle.
*****
This breaks my heart because I know that there has NEVER been a case of wolves attacking any human in the USA, and it makes me FURIOUS that they show the lie.
It might seem like I am making a big deal of nothing. But honest to God, wolves are harmless.
What they showed last night in primetime to knows how many children is just WRONG.
When we disrespect the facts of nature, we disrespect ourselves, and our behavior will reflect it.

it's just rare that wolves attack people but most of the time, they don't really do any harm so most of the time wolves just run in fear because humans are bigger and stronger.

I never seen a live wolf before in person, but most of the time I've seen them on TV like animal planet or whatever like that, they could only attack when they feel like they are in extreme danger, but would never attack a human for food anyway.

Rare? It has NEVER HAPPENED!

Well, it is very rare for a wolf to attack a human being. But yes, it has happened in the past. If the wolves are in a famine, they may attack a human. Or if the wolf just happen to be rabid.

Otherwise, people shouldn't be terrified of the wolves. Well... just don't be stupid enough to scream and then run. Just... walk away. Otherwise, they'll just feel provoked. I know it did happen in Canada before, but I don't recall hearing about any cases in the USA.

Last January, I heard that a man in Saskatchewan got attacked by a timber wolf. Though the man did survive, but he had to get a lot of stitches. He was bitten on the back, arm, leg and groin. (ouch)

CBC News - Wolf attacks Saskatchewan man

Like I said, it's pretty rare for a wolf to attack a human unless the wolf is starved to death, or just plainly rabid. Also, you won't get turned into a werewolf if you get bitten by one. :)

Wolves are part of the canine family, they are just bound to attack people like many other dog breeds. But they often live in isolation rather than where people live.

Coyotes are really smart. When they see a young dog on the property, they are calling this dog to play with them. They 'invited' the dog to walk with them into the woods pretending playing with the excited dog. When the cycotes look around to make sure that there are no people or houses, they finally kill the dog for food. :(

How many females are in heat today, I wonder?
Hee hhe, yeah Web, that is a true fact of life.
It irks me though, that that facts are not being relayed to our children. Wildlife is DANGEROUS, and we better let the gevernment handle it.
Let Halliburton crawl over Alaska, and enable them to remove obstacles in the name our own safety.
In your dreams, Herr Monkeyboy, in your dreams.
No doubt in the neoChristian mind all ends justify the means.

I have seen wolf in reallife before when i was like 8 years old and got lost.... there was a wolf who were following me around and i thought that wolf was a dog. that wolf never harmed me or even come close he or she just follows me around then finally i got interested in that "dog" and began to follow him/her for some reason it lead me to end of the forest and there was like 3 men who were hunting (it was deer season) and they saw that wolf standing about 50 or 100 yards away from me and i ran to those men asked for help. i look back to the forest and she/he was gone.

later when they got me to my mom she told me how lucky i was cuz wolves could hurt me but i never believed her lol.

so yea wolves doesnt hurt humans... in fact most of time they stays away from humans unless they are injuried or, have pups to protect, or is being cornered by humans. mostly they are interested in animals for them to eat.

i wouldnt advice anybody to go close to wolves but if anybody wants the wolves to come close they would have to stay very very very still and have food for them as peace giving and DONT MOVE .... cuz if u startle them they WILL attack thinking u are planning to hurt them. Pure defense moves.

DONT DO IT UNLESS YOU ARE TRAINED TO DO THIS.

because once they attack.. they attack to kill. not to hurt but to kill period. thats how wolves works.. same for any other wildlife.. they are dangerous cuz they dont trust u, but they also are gentle animals and usually stays away from humans.

I gotta remind you that I am talking about wolves. Pure wolves. Not crossbreeds.
Crossbreeds are not to be trusted.
But you can trust me on this--oh hell, what's the point????

im not sure if it was crossbreed or wolves... heck it could be husky dog (remember i was only 8 or 9 years old) but men seem to think its a purebreed wolf :)

i dealt wiht lot of wildlife animals before cuz i spent a LOT of time in forest. and not even one of them harmed me

the point is.. they wont hurt u if they dont feel threatened period.

Awww, thanks.
The thing is, I had kids here last night watching the movie.
I was totally shocked they showed baloney. You know impressionable kids are.
I tried to explain.

So they put boxes over their heads and screamed about buffalo.
Now what?

SpiceHd, what state were you in when you saw this wolf?

let them .... when they are old enough they will learn how to tell difference between truth and false and they will listen to u..

so just explain that they are not really that scary... and leave it at that till they are old enough . ohterwise they wouldnt believe u.. not unless u can find a movie about wolves that they could enjoy and it shows gentle side of wolves.

Banjo, I respect the heck of what you say, but this time you do not know what you are talking about.
Sorry. The wolf family is complicated and a loss of a memer has far-reaching consequences. It is not like, OHH, whoops , this guy is gone, life goes on.

Oh I have seen wolves... one morning when I was about 7 or 8 yrs old, my dad wanted me to go get the sunday morning newspaper, it was freezing and rainy, my dad wasnt in the mood to get it so he sent me outside to get it while he waited inside...

I just walked outside because I loved the rain and picked up the heavy newspaper, I thought I was seeing a dog, u know big german shephard, but this dog growled at me showing his fangs, I screamed and screamed at 5 30 am...my dad jerked the door open, and told me get in the hell here right nowwwww!! I ran and I just threw newspaper at the dog...of course I cried and cried because I was so scared...I said big doggie big doggie showed me teeth...

dad told me, no it was not a doggie, it was a wolf....of course I screamed,,, had nightmares.. my dad said it is rare for wolf to attack unless have rabies....a week later,,animal control caught the wolf, drove 4 hrs west of texas and released the wolf back in the wild. I just know my dad told me it was very rare for wolves to attack unless u are alone...u have no chance hmmm.

Downing, in Texas, then you must mean a coyote, right?

Beowulf,
I feel your pain and I see this in a lot of Disney movies. My Disney pet peeve is how Native Americans are portrayed...especially Pocahontas. There were so many inaccuracies in that movie (and many other Disney Movies). Just remember it is Disney and treat it like a fairytale. I know that doesn't help the education of today's children to wolves or Native Americans, but it helps keeping me from getting upset and ruining a movie for my nieces (I do explain those inaccuracies after they have finished the movie instead of trying to explain it during the movie).

Myth No. 2 Wolves do not attack people

Surprisingly some leading publications are still making this claim that there is no documented proof that a wolf attacked a person in North America. The WDNR was making this claim at the 1986 Wolf Plan Meetings in spite of the fact that the 1982 Aug and Oct Outdoor Life carried stories of wolves attacking a person.

The July 1997 Reader’s Digest carried a story of a camper being attacked and being badly bitten in a Canadian park. It took many stitches but the camper recovered. The wolf was killed and not found to not be rabid.

This past July a child was attacked by a wolf in Alaska. The wolf tried to carry the boy off but was driven away. Later when the wolf returned it was shot. It was also found to not be rabid. This story was carried in the Wisconsin Outdoor News this past summer. A more complete story of this incident .can be found on Yahoo or the Internet Explorer by just keying up Alaskan Wolf Attack

On April 18, 1996 Tricia Wyman, a 24 year old wolf researcher, was killed and partly eaten by a pack of wolves in Canada. The wolves had to all be killed before Wyman’s body could be recovered. The source for this story is Out of Doors, June 1996. Surprisingly NBC News had a feature on some captive wolves and made the claim that in spite of people killing thousands of wolves, wolves have not killed anybody. This was only a month after the Wyman story made the news. A complete account of this incident can be found on Yahoo by just keying in Canadian Wolf Attack.

On 2/6/96 Dave Montgomery of Battle, Nevada grabbed a 22 semi automatic and investigated a ruckus in his pig pen. A wolf attacked him and was stopped after a volley of several shots. Source---June 1996 NRA Rifleman.

During the 1960s Outdoor Life had a "This Happened to Me" about an ice fisherman that was on a lake when some aerial gunners put down a wolf. He went up to the wolf and it got up and made a lunge for his throat. Lucky for him he had his ice chisel along. He stopped the wolf with the chisel as the wolf was speared and he was able to finish him off. So much for wolves being afraid of people and only wanting to avoid them

In the early 90s Outdoor Life carried a story about a Siberian village that was surrounded by a pack of wolves. If any of the inhabitants went outside the wolves killedand ate them. With the Russian gun control nobody had a means to deal with the wolves. Finally the Russian army came and killed all of the wolves and put an end to that situation.

Sometime ago NBC News had a segment on wolves killing over a hundred people in India. People there do not have shelters with walls sufficient to allow heating to contend with cold weather. So these wolves were able to break into these shelters and carry off children This still continues to be a problem with the wolves in India.

A summer issue of the Wisconsin Outdoor News carried a story of wolves chasing a deer that escaped by crawling under a logger’s skidder. These collared wolves ignored the loggers and went after the deer. Finally the loggers succeeded in driving off the wolves. Once again so much for wolves being deathly afraid of people.

If you have read Dick Thiele’s book on Wisconsin Wolves you remember the account of a trapper that was trying to get to his shelter with some wolves nipping at him from behind. He was lucky enough to get into the shack and shut the door behind himself and escape the wolf attack badly bitten.

In the book "Of Men and Wolves" in the first couple of pages it says that Indians and Eskimos know that wolves do kill people. Of course they also believe that some of their ancestors do return to earth as wolves. That is their version of heaven. So they do not want to talk about wolves killing people.

From all of this one can conclude that it is only a matter of time until a wolf does actually kill a person in the wild. The wolf promoters probably already have their denial and justification stories prepared.
