I just found this really cool service that will, for time being anyway, caption any youtube video you want to have captioned. I say "For the time being" because right now it says it's a "Special offer". So I don't know how long they'll keep doing it for free. But I just tried it and it worked. IF you want to see it in action I have it embedded in my tagdeaf page. Click here to see it (Scroll down, it's right above my friends list. It's titled - Why you shouldn´t bring deaf people to see a ventriliquist).

It's not often a service claims that it does something for free and it actually works. Well, I tried it out last night and today I have it and it's closed captioned now.

Here's how it works. Go to subPLAY.com.

On the upper right corner of the page you'll see the youtube logo and below it it says, "Get free captions for any youtube video". Click that link.

On the next page click "Start Now".

On the next page add the URL to the youtube video you want closed captioned. The only limitation is the video can't be longer then 5 minutes long. :(

It'll ask you to enter an Email address and it'll send you a conformation Email. I can understand the need for this.

Fallow the link in the Email you receive.

That's it. Within 24 hours they'll send you an Email letting you know the video has been closed captioned and you can embed this video anywhere you want. Or, you can download the captions and add them to your own youtube video.

It words great. Give it a try. I'm sure there are some youtube videos you wish you could watch but couldn't because it isn't captioned. Now you can watch them. The 5 minute limitation is kind of annoying bot for a free service I can't complain about that.

I am done sending the message to Hulu! Thanks a bunch! It's wonderful to have
you to be here for me to easy accessible to send e-mail to Hulu. :) Good job.

Wow, I am trying it. I will see if it works. This looks neat! Thanks for sharing it.

Subply rejects videos without reason

Subply sent reject notices to three of my youtube videos without providing a reason:
Unfortunately your request for captions/subtitles for the following URL has not met our Terms of Use.
Your request has therefore been canceled and will not be delivered.

SubPLY - The home of professional subtitles for web video

it would be nice to know why they were rejected so I can figure out which videos to submit in the future... the videos were news worthy events no porn or bad language...

srugs

I was reading that website and this maybe the reason why:

2.You create a request for captions and confirm the request upon receipt of an confirmation request to the provided email address (the “Request”). You must be the copyright owner of this video or be authorized by the legal content owner to make such Request.

I understand those that you sent wasn't owned by you?

That is odd because I've done 5 so far with no problem and none of the videos they've subtitled for me are my own video (Not on my youtube account).

I can think of a couple of reasons you might have trouble though. While looking around at youtube I read a couple of comments in videos from subplay that says something like: "A request was made for subplay to add closed captioning to this video". Then asks if subplay has permission. Maybe they where denied.

Be sure to click the link in the conformation Email they send you. Nothing will happen unless you do. If you don't see it in your Email in box then check your spam mail folder.

Can any of you that it didn't work for tell me what video you tried to have captioned? Maybe that'll give us some answers.

Ron

Not sure if this is why anyone is having problems with the caption requests you've submitted, but YouTube is going through a big thing recently where they are concerned about "community violations" - something to do with copyright issues and such. It was in the news this week - I don't recall where (otherwise I'd provide a link) but you can probably google it.

Hi Ron,
Very funny video! The CC was pretty good. I am just wonder how accurate the timing is?
For some of my videos, they will have to match the 'click' sound which is only half a second long and timing is critical.
I would love to be able to let an automated program do this as its is really tedious and time consuming to add CC.

subply.com sucks so much.
I sent in two videos to be captained. they rejected them.
Im very disappointed in their services.

we need better services than that crappy subply.com
shame on owners of subply.com
I told them that I will be posting negative about them.

They wont get any of my money at all.

screw them.

It looks like they've ended their free offer now. Well, it did work well for while it lasted.

I agree, we need a good service for this.
