SAO PAULO (AP) — Two German tourists have been detained for taking their clothes off in the lobby of a Brazilian airport, authorities said Tuesday.

The two men allegedly changed their clothes in front of other passengers at the Salvador international airport while awaiting a flight back to Germany on Monday, authorities said.

Police formally accused the tourists of obscenity and said they could face up to one year in prison if convicted. They were released following a two-hour interrogation and were being allowed to leave the country, but signed a document promising to return to Brazil if requested by authorities.

The men were not identified by authorities.

Police inspector Maritta Souza said the 66-year-old man from Koenigsberg and his 64-year-old friend from Bad Bevensen said they thought it "was normal" to change clothes like that in Brazil, especially in a beach city like Salvador.

They said that they were late for their flight and needed to change into new clothes because one of them got wet during a boat trip and the other felt sick and vomited during the same trip earlier in the day.

A Brazilian passenger called police when he saw the tourists taking their clothes off in front of other people.

"I went there and asked if they would like to see other people taking their clothes off in front of his wife or in front of kids," Paulo Goes told Globo TV. "They just laughed."

Normal to change clothes in Brazil?

Have they EVER thought of kids in public?? :ugh:

Germans are very liberal-minded when it comes to nudity. In Germany, it is acceptance to be naked front of children in public (as long sexual is not involved.)

:giggle: all I can do is laugh at that. although there might have been children around, I highly doubt that they got scarred for life ;)

Then on another hand, was the couple really running that late that they couldn't excuse themselves politely to the air company and run for the restroom instead?

I see nothing wrong with that... :dunno:

I change clothes in public front of children at women room, indoor swimming pool and sauna... It doesn't bother the children... I see nothing wrong with that... :dunno:

Yeah, not just Germany but other Europe countries as well.

There're difference between nudity and porn...

wow, don't you know that Brazilians are well-known in the world is show extoic bodies/nudity front of thousands people at Festivals?

What about this?

It look like that Germans thought it's normal because of this... :dunno2:

An airport is not the same as an indoor pool. Most reasonable people going to an airport don't expect to see men changing their clothes there.

But they did not dance nudity or whatever front of the people but just hurry and change to fresh...

I referred SteelX's question... "Have they EVER thought of kids in public?? "

It's public Brazil airport, as you know it's international people in there.

That's so wrong. Never do the stupid thing.

Just because they weren't dancing doesn't mean it was appropriate. Airport terminals have restrooms available for clothes changing. Airport terminals are public transportation places; they are not your home, not a beach, not a sauna.

Yes, adults should be considerate of other people, especially when traveling.

perhaps that's ok in Germany but this is a foreign country. You cannot do that in USA either.

Yes, I agree that they should change in restroom. I really don´t know why they do that because I personally would not do that... I have see a lot of German change to fresh in restroom front of us in Airport, Amusement park, etc.

This probably doesn't do much to improve Germany's image in the eyes of the rest of the world! ;)
