A 65-year-old Berlin woman who already has 13 children is pregnant again with quadruplets, German media reported Sunday.

The Russian and English teacher's pregnancy follows several attempts abroad at artificial insemination over the last year and a half, German RTL broadcaster said.

The woman, Annegret Raunigk, decided to try to have another child because her youngest daughter, who is nine, wanted a little brother or sister, RTL said on its website.

The TV channel will broadcast an interview with the expectant mother, who has seven grandchildren, on Monday evening.

It said the pregnancy had so far been without any major complications and that if everything went well, the babies were due in the summer and that Raunigk would be the world's oldest mother of quadruplets.

Mass circulation newspaper Bild am Sonntag also reported the four-baby pregnancy, quoting the mum-to-be as saying the news had initially come as a shock.

"After the doctor discovered there were four, I had to give it some thought to begin with," Bild quoted her as saying, adding however she had not considered it an option to reduce the number of embryos.

Asked about the moral implications, RTL quoted her as saying: "I think, one must decide that for oneself."

Bild also reported on Raunigk 10 years ago when she gave birth to her 13th child and quoted her at the time as saying she had only initially envisaged having one.

Wow... I wonder if the 65 year old body can handle carrying the quadruplets? It's sad that the kids will not have their mother very long with that age... 1/4 of their lives at least.

That's how Elizabeth Edwards died. Manipulation of the hormones to have children when too old.

The woman will probably succumb to cancer long before the children are grown.

That will be weird to have a child younger than your grandchildren

From what I hear, if over 40 years old have child. Then the child will live much longer than 10s-20s parents.

She could live to be 90 yo , she looked good at 55 yo.

true, also, people need to take into account not just the woman's chronological age, but more importantly, her biological age. The two ages are not the same. The biological age is a better testament of the person's current and future health. People's chronological age is just a number, their biological age is truly important to consider.

My grandmother is almost 104 years old. She was a few months shy of 75 when I was born. Her biological age at that time was very good. She has led a very active life. She road her bicycle around town well into her late 70s/early 80s. She stopped driving at 96 (she kept passing the test). At 88 years old she road Thunder Mountain in Disney World with us.

I fully know not everyone is guaranteed to make it to 100. But if she does, her children will be well into their 30s at that point...

I'm not a fan of having children so late in life. It seems unfair to the children who will get to spend only a smaller portion of their life with their parents.

What I found interesting, and, IMO, not a greatreason to have more kids:

Really?

Yeah I know a guy I met at the park he is in his 70's and in very good shape and very funny too ! His wife is going away for 2 weeks with a friend and the friend asked the guy what he was going to do all alone and he said "Haha!" with a devilish look in his eyes . He told me he had to find some girls .:giggle:
His from Maine and people are sturdy there.

she not going be around see grandchildren...it wrong and cruel on these children plus she really is friggin mad

Doesn't matter what city, state or country a person is from; there's 'sturdy' people everywhere.

Will be interesting to see what happens. I'm not so sure the reason why she got pregnant is a very bright one. I certainly hope she is also doing so out of love not because the youngest wants a younger sister or brother.

Biological age or not-- a pregnancy for a woman her age will likely wind up with complications-- more so since she is having quadruplets. Not an unheard of thing for older women to get pregnant via in vitro but still pretty rare from what I've read...

Dont agree at all with her pregnancy.

She cheated by using other persons egg.

I'm sitting here :giggle:, sounds like a "dirty old man" to me! Hope that wasn't my hubby you met up with! he's in his 70's and a nice looking guy. Yup we are a hardy lot up here. I can not stop :laugh2: Your post struck me funny.

The kids will be lucky to see their mom live until they graduate from highschool. By then, the mom will be in her 80's and most likely needing help with her daily activities if not in a nursing home.

Would you want your mother giving birth to a child at 65? I sure wouldn't. There's a reason why most women are unable to have babies naturally after 40-50yrs. of age. I'm not a fan of playing God using fertility treatments to get pregnant in later stages of life.

The woman is crazy! Perhaps the kids can live with her at the old folks home.
