I don't really know how to approach this question without sounding like I am being patronizing or ignorant, but I will try my best. First of all I am a 31 y/o hearing guy. Although I look and act younger, I am ready to find something a bit more serious. I feel like I have limited myself too much in the past and am wanting to expand my potential for finding someone that I can have a meaningful relationship with. I would like to stop limiting myself to only other hearing guys. I have read some posts on here where people who are hearing are accused of having a "deaf fetish". I don't want to come across as that because it's not true. I just think that there are so many quality people with all sorts of different issues that are discredited because of their "disabilities". I think that overcoming an obstacle like this could actually make a relationship much stronger, and I would like to meet some people that this could possibly happen with. All that said, there is one huge problem. I have no ASL training, and would need to take some classes. I am completely willing to do this, and plan on finding a place to learn anyway. So anyway, if any of you guys have any advice for me, or want to chat a bit, let me know. I'd love to meet some new people. Thanks.

take an ASL class taught by a Deaf person/CODA for your own self. If it helps you later in developing a relationship, great.
Seek out others because of a connection you and they may have that is based on something more than a physical and/or cultural curiosity. Expand your interests for yourself and then other possibilities will follow.

don't look for obstacles out there. Seek what may be missing inside.

You may have some luck to find HoH who are completely oral or deaf people with CI that use oral as primary.

If you want communicate with many deaf people so you need learn to sign in ASL. There are some colleges offer ASL courses.

If classes aren't something you can afford I recommend going to some websites. I favor lifeprint.com and signingsavvy.com. But really the best thing to do is to get involved. Just like with spoken languages if your around it enough, you'll pick up more of it. My girlfriend took ASL 1 and 2 awhile back and today she got her first deaf customer at work and she was able to translate more than she originally thought she knew! So just practice.
